I’m hoping someone can help with this.

My samsung tablet model GT-P5210 galaxy tab 3, andriod operating system 4.2.2, no longer works with the bt sport app.

I get the message your device is no longer supported something like that i cant remember exactly when i wanted to watch the footy tonight.

What can i do to get around this?

I’ve had a look and ran a software update but nothing new which is disappointing as the tablet works great with other apps sky go etc.

If i cant get an update it looks like i’ll be saving some money and cancelling bt sport as im not buying a new tablet just so i can use that app.

I thought there would be an update but cant seem to find anything on a internet seach.

Any ideas?

Not sure, Wod. I'm very surprised a Samsung device hasn't long since received 5.1

Even my cheapo Tegra Note got it last Autumn.

Have you tried Settings /About Tablet (or similar)?

Just found an article from last September saying Galaxy 3 Lollipop updates were being rolled out.

Seems it'll just be a waiting game.

Install the Samsung Kies software on your computer, plug the Tab in via USB, let Kies do its stuff, if there's an update for the OS available it'll offer it, if not, head over to XDA-Developers for options on what can be done to it... :)

Re XDA option will involve installing a custom ROM, but Sky Go does not work with custom ROMs.

Or install the stock Android 4.4.2 ROM if Kies doesn't offer it, XDA dev ain't always about custom ROMs... :-rofl2

Searching further ive found this link which looks promising

_Update Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 GT-P5210 with Android 4.4.2 KitKat"]Update Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 GT-P5210 with Android 4.4.2 KitKat

Just taking time to find the right firmware file as samsung region codes arent helpful, united kingdom apparantly is BTU?

Looking on bt sport site 4.3 jelly bean or higher is required so updating to 4.4.2 should sort it.

Will try the Kies software first as i dont want to brick my tablet flashing a wrong file.

Once ive got 4.4.2 on i wonder if can update further or i will be stuck on 4.4.2 but thats for another day.

Officially yes, you'll be stuck with 4.4.2 as the latest, unofficially (and that's where delving into the depths of modded ROMs on XDA Dev comes in) the processor's the limit, as they can take a surprisingly high version OS before bogging down, it's just the manufacturer just wants you to upgrade the device and not the OS, at least Samsung's kind enough to allow their users to mod & repair though, no Error 53 for us... :D

4.2.2 (Last official jellybean build) was my fave version of Google's Android. This lenovo tab keeps prompting me to upgrade to 5.0, it can f*#k right off, I'm not a fan at all, the no silent option via volume to nil then press again that was on EVERY other build is point A.

Got around to doing this tonight and I'm having a bit of trouble.

I've installed kies and it didn't find an update through the program so gonna have to flash the firmware file.

I've got the firmware file unzipped and also got the Odin flashing tool.

However this is where I get stuck.

I've enabled the usb debugging mode in developer options.

When I come to put the tablet into download mode, this works fine but then open Odin and it can't find the tablet no connection to it.

If I plug in the tablet into PC in normal mode Odin finds the tablet.

The Samsung usb drivers are installed correctly.

Any ideas where I'm going wrong?

I had this with my Galaxy S3 phone, I had to manually remind Windows I'd plugged something in (going into Device Manager and ordering it to check again for connected hardware), then give it a few moments to install drivers and then Odin recognised it was there and waiting for an OS file... :)

I will try that but under device manager the Samsung abd driver is installed correctly?

How come Odin lights up blue and says connected when I have the tablet connected in usb mode like I'm going to transfer over pictures etc seems to find it then.

Also am I going into the right download mode by holding down all at once volume up+power button+ home button?

Ah, there we go, it's Volume Down+Power for Download Mode... :)

So what is the other menu for if you hold down volume up+power button+home button?

I've got it into download mode and currently writing the Kitkat 4.4.2 file with Odin v3.09.

It seems I was trying to connect via the abd interface or something.

Got a pass on Odin so it's looking good so far.

Spent 3 hours on this last night and it seems i was in the wrong menu lol.

Cheers to all for the help.

That's to wipe the phone's cache and default it back to factory settings, plus a few other things I never delved into, it's recommended to do the cache wipe after an upgrade, but not necessary... :)

well the update to 4.4.2, has worked fine, I was thinking I had bricked the tablet trying to update in the other menu screen.

Once I was in the correct menu screen the update is rather straight forward.

Yeah, the bonus too was all my apps and settings were still present when the tablet had rebooted after the update.

I thought everything would have been wiped off.

Cheers again for all the help.

This is all a bit ironic. ..
.SWMBO picked up her phone (Galaxy S3) this morning (which, in my opinion, she messes with too much - powering it off every night, only half charging it etc) , said; 'How long have we had this phone?' I said 3 years, almost to the day. 'Oh. It's not starting up.' Said she, so most of the day was spent unsuccessfully trying to reflash the firmware.
Grrr!
