Help with digital receiver in France?

I wonder if anyone can help -- I need to replace the digital satellite receiver we use to receive British TV programmes in France. I bought one that I thought would work from the local hypermarket, but it had some kind of internal locking mechanism that prevented it from picking up anything except French channels (the satellite dish is correctly trained on Astra 28.2, where BBC etc are broadcast).

Can anyone suggest a reasonably priced box without this sort of limitation? Doesn't have to do anything clever, just receive the usual range of free channels.

I suspect you've bought something like a TNTSat Receiver.

If all you want is 28.2E, then I think the best think you could do is get a Freesat Box (Freesat being the relatively new Platform - not related to Sky or FreesatfromSky).

On the assumption you have easy access to the UK market, have a look at current models listed at the right hand side here:

You've a choice of SD boxes, HD boxes or PVRs and at prices from the cheap and cheerful to the pointlessly overspecified rich person's toy.
