Help with LNB set up using 2 x 4 Switch

2 x DM800HD (Genuine in UK, Clone in SA); Virus-free, open source Linux (openSuSE 12.3 and Ubuntu 13.04) PCs (home and office).

Hi, I am trying to find someone that can help me set up my two DM800's, using a common Unicable LNB via a 2 x 4 Switcher.

The attached hopefully explains what I have at the moment (non HD) and what I would like to achieve (HD).

Although I am in South Africa (PAS7/10), I am guessing the LNB set-up is going to be similar to what might be required in W Europe?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

To run 4 single tuner receivers from one dish, a universal quad is all you need.


I have no experience of using a unicable LNB, but your receivers do not appear on the compatibily list, and secondly, you wouldn't need to use a switch with it if it did, you'd use a splitter.
 
The reasoning behind the Unicable was to enable me to run just two cables through the (already full) piping in the wall. Local suppliers recommended the Unicable and switcher, but lack any technical info to assist me.
I also noted that the manufacturer omits to mention any Dreambox as being compatible, but the DM800 set up does include a 'Unicable' option.
My current setup (using the Unicable) does work, but I know I need to add the switcher for HD and that the settings in the DM800 setup will then be critical.
I am guessing, from the lack of feedback I am getting, that Unicables are not all that popular in the UK?
 
Not sure that they are popular or not, but you could be right.

I think that the main problem may be that not all receivers are able to use the single cable router system.

I'm confused though, what has HD got to do with anything? The switching/disrubution/number of feeds arrangement doesn't appear to have any bearing at all on whether you receive High Defintion TV or not.

Also, why do you think that you need to have a switch?

From a quick read of the info only, it appears that all you need to do, is to split the incoming feed 4 ways, and then run to each receiver, and it should work.
 
With regard to a Unicable, my understanding from both the supplier and info I have found on the web, is that a Unicable and switcher has the advantage of minimising the number of down-cables required, plus the switcher allows you to connect 4 (2 x 4) or even 6 (2 x 6) HD receivers.
I specifically mentioned HD as I had assumed there would be a need to configure the LNB settings on the DM800 to include certain parameters that might not be necessary for non-HD. Eg. there are settings within the LNB configuration that include LOF (I have set to Unicable); Unicable Configuration Mode (I have set to Unicable User Defined); Channel (I have set to SatCR C1). I may be completely wrong, but I am guessing the latter might be related to the setting up of the switcher, so might be important?

I think that one of the frustrations of the Dreambox's is that there seems to be very little info readily available to help users set up these parameters.

If I look at this from a completely different angle, then is it possible to run a Quad LNB and combine the outputs before feeding them through my piping, bearing in mind that I only ever want to feed to two HD 800's? I haven't read up on Quad LNB' so have no knowledge of their theory.
 
HD channels utilise the same signal as SD channels, no extra switching or components are required.

Just been looking at the Inverto site and it appears that you just use their Unicable splitter to serve an extra box from a single cable.
 
How many tuners does each DM800 have? and you only have two?
