HELP with new motorised install

Hi all I need some help :confused: this is a thread and a bit so sorry for long story maybe you should grab a beer or cup of tea before you read my saga :)

I have a dm500s with pli jade on a sky mini dish all working fine, I have now decided to go motorised and bought myself a 1m dish.

Followed lots of tuts and fitted dish, bracket is L shaped which came with kit and I know its got to be plumb so spent time doing this even to point of a couple of washers to be exact.

Motor and dish mounted and pointing due south (poundland compass for this) lat for my area is 52 but the other bracket that connects the motor to the dish well it dont have any declination for me to set in my case 30-7.5=22.5, the bracket to me seems like it should be for a fixed pole, it has 4 different markings on it on both sides 0-19 and 20-55 on 1 side of bracket and on other side it has 53-80 and 75-90.

Ok I thought I'll carry on and set this other bracket to 22.5 (you have to move this bracket to different 8mm holes to use the required setting) so now I,m pointing due south with my correct lat and what I think is correct declination and now I,m trying to find thor, here begins my hair pulling and up and down ladder nightmare :eek:

I have a sat finder too a konig one cheap from ebay I follow the desrtuctions it came with albeit vague and think I'm doing this right, I need to set the finder at 5 on scale tweak the disk E W and no diff up down on dish goes higher, re adjust dec and get to 10 on scale when dec is at around 18 (if this is right bracket and I'm reading this correct)

No matter where I move dish E W this finder dont move, surely this cant be right I would of thought that if I moved E W the finder would go higher/lower?

OK now I cant find thor so I decide ok lets find 28.2, I have manged to achieve this with using the move east west functions on the motor config and have secured this sat with a 90ish snr 90 ish agc and 0 ish ber, I can now view what I have on this sat ok this also proves that cabling dish lnb etc are working ok, if I try to move to other sats I cannot get a lock on them I understand that if I have not got a lock on thor and tweaked it from there then I can be out the arc big time.

So why cant I find thor? the best snr I get is 60 and the ber is like a lottery number and no lock or sync is x

Sorry for the long post guys but I'm trying to give as much info as I can, anyone out there that can think what I'm doing wrong??

First thing to do is remove the L-shaped bracket and throw it in the scrap metal bins up at your local tip. They flex and bend in gales

Replace it with a decent set of T&K brackets and a sturdy pole.
 
Was thinking same as the lot did move and bounce a lot when I was on roof, what size bracket for a 1m dish and my mate is a scaffolder so pole can come from him what length do you recommend?

But why cant get thor if I can get 28.2
 
Read the various forum guides for info on how to set up. You should be aligning on 1W to start with.
 
I have read and read and I cannot get thor, I may be missing something basic here I just dont no what, this bracket I have mentioned seems to be an issue or well for me anyway as there is no declination scale on it, could it be my box (weak tuner) or image even?

I could work as a window cleaner now as av been up and down them ladders like one, I for the life of me cannot find thor. I shall carry on reading and tweaking any more thoughts :confused:
 
I think that a few pictures of your setup would really help. We might be able to spot something obvious you've overlooked.
 
Also can you describe your method of searching. How are you making the DM power the sat finder. If it hasn't got any channels scanned in it won't send power up to the sat finder, which is maybe why you can find channels on 28E but not 1W.

If you follow Analoguesat's advice and the guides,get the pole vertical, motor elevation correct, you shouldn't have a problem. 11325H (check lyngsat for other parameters) is still active and strong. Can you get ant other sats? When I'm having an off moment, I tend to go for Hotbird 13E (send there with USALS/gotoX), it is almost impossible NOT to pick that up.

Errrr.....did you not mean "it's almost impossible not to pick that up"?.....or were you having an "off moment"?

Ok hello all

Just thought I would bump this thread and let you no the outcome.

Been working away for last 6 months had another crack at this today, managed to get hold of a Horizon HDSM meter and tried to find thor again, no luck, so went to 28.2 and worked my way back and all is good, maybe a little tweak or 2 yet a think, but anyways thanks for all your input on this :)

Still cant work out why a cannot find thor :confused: who nows someone may have shot it out sky
