This pc has been prompting me to connect using a high speed hub (works more efficiently I suppose).

What is it, and is there a PCI adapter available (for Win 98 or 2000) to turn this hulk into the Enterprise ?

The prompting normally comes from XP. I get it on my HP lappy as it only has USB 1.1 ports - quite frankly I wish I could turn it off as I KNOW that if I had USB 2 ports they would work faster!

Anyway, back to the question. PCI USB 2 cards are available. Seem to be about £10 - £15 IIRC.

Not sure that USB 2.0 will work on Windows 98. It may do on the last version but not earlier.

Anyway 1.1 runs at 12bits/sec and 2.0 at 480 bits/sec.

Go to the top of the class, I was range experimenting with a spare drive that had Win XP and the wireless remote on it when the prompt came up, but the O/S is not my weapon of choice.

Will look in the parts bin for a USB2.0, unless somebody can throw a few names/cheap card my way.

Found one (and a weird one to boot)

Has four external ports, and one for inside the casing.

Seems to run fine on the XP o/s

Will try it later on the Win 2000

Results with the new USB port system

1) No extra range with the wireless link, so I think I'll be moving garages sooner.

2) I can bid a lot quicker on eBay,sometimes getting within 2 seconds of the finish time, rather than 10. As a result I have won a couple of motorbikes this month when polishing off the last of the wine.

(The wife will be happy)
