Hello all,

I recently purchased and installed a Visiosat Bisat and it's an incredible dish! Easy to setup and I can successfully view 13, 19.2 and 28.2 without any reduction in quality whatsoever.

It's definitely a two man job as the dish is big/heavy when installing but it's performance is better than anything I have used before. I am based in the West Midlands, UK for anyone else looking to setup a multi-satellite setup :)

On a seperate note, I have a small question with regards to Free to Air and encrypted channels. I've setup my receiver to search and display all FTA channels only (and this works great), but if I bought a French BIS TV viewing card, I don't want to have to enable all encrypted channels, but just the ones the BIS TV card unlocks. I believe it's about 20 channels. Can this be done?

Can someone keep me up to speed what's happening on the French television scene? I believe TNTSat requires a dedicated receiver (but only last for 4 years); so what happens after this? BIS TV is an annual subscription, but works with a Viaccess cam and Canal Sat is extremely expensive. There doesn't appear to be a standard FTA system like there is in the UK, Spain, Italy and Germany. Will this soon change for France? Many thanks!
 
All you have to do is scan the relevant transponders for the channels you want and the receiver will add them to the channel list.

As far as I know, the French channels will remain as subscription and this appears to be the trend rather than the exception.
 
Thanks for the reply. So I presume this would be in the advanced options somewhere? I have a Fortec Star Passion receiver.

So I could scan specific transponders without having to enable encrypted channels? Would Lyngsat have such a list of information?
 
Yes, you can find the info on Lyngsat, you enable the scan of encrypted channels on a per scan basis, so if you go into the scan for channels section of your menu, select the transponder you wish to scan, or add it, then scan for all channels on that transponder only.

Unfortunately I don't remember the menu structure on the Fortecstar as it's not a receiver I use.


PS, is your dish a Bisat or Big Bisat?

It is the Bisat and not Big Bisat. I did have a look at the Big Bisat, but (as the name suggests) it's even bigger at 90cm wide instead of 75cm and even more expensive.

I also had to take into consideration that there are only so many satellites reachable from certain positions.
 
I've installed a few of the Bisat dishes, mostly with the third bracket for Astra 28.2, 19.2 and Hotbird, very nice dish, but as you say, a tad on the expensive side. Was looking at the Big Bisat last week and may get one to install here, as I tend only to use the satellites in the range 1 West to 28.2 East.:)
 
It does have a very wide range, and using sites like dishpointer allow you to look for the optimal position. Ideally installing as high as possible is going to get you the best results. Too low and you risk a tree getting in the way!
 
Doesn't have to be high, just have the correct lines of sight, for many locations a ground mount will work well.:) Mine does have to go high though, as the dish is at the back and the satellites are towards the front.:)
