Just ordered one of these after my media player died last night ..
It was a Hi-Media 900 series ...and had given excellent service over the last 4 or 5 years ....and believe me it did get used a lot ..
Still ..time to say goodbye ..and hello to it's replacement when it arrives ..
There are lots of features I'll never use
3D & WiFi for example ...
but more important to me is the ability to connect using Samba ...
A wired ethernet port ..and connectivity via hdmi but with spdif audio ..
..and a 'proper' remote ...not one of those 'biscuit remotes'
Anyone used one of these boxes ?
If so perhaps you could provide a bit of a review of your likes and dislikes ...

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

Kodi is currently under investigation as an overly easy way of receiving content that - according to certain broadcasters - should be within their revenue stream.

Not Kodi themselves but north-east trader Brian Thompson if I've read it correctly. I know that name from somewhere I'm sure.

It is not about dealers or limited to the UK, a case commenced in Canada a couple of months ago from memory, will find a link

But those are all resellers who sell modified boxes. Not the standard issue.

But those are all resellers who sell modified boxes. Not the standard issue.

The court ruling says the companies pointed in particular to three preinstalled applications that could be used to access content protected by copyright: an open-source media player known as KODI, Showbox, a media player software similar to the now-defunct Popcorn Time, and private IPTV Services, “which are private Internet servers that retransmit television broadcasts over the Internet, usually for a monthly fee.”

Which is just a short step away from claiming KODI is the problem, not that it is preinstalled.

So ..the box I've ordered isn't illegal in it's own right ..but has the potential to be used illegally ..
I guess I'm ok then ..lol

Don´t tell them about Mobdro ! Much easier to use for techno phobic people , and possibly more reliable than Kodi.

I personally like to capture and re-watch documentaries such as Horizon and Attenborough....which I guess most folk used to do with a VCR or freeview PVR box ..?
The difference is I guess that I may want to watch them again at a later date of my choosing ...which is why I store stuff.
I also prefer to buy a DVD and store it in iso form for easier access ..
There are those who like racks and shelves with them on display ..
Personally I prefer out of sight out of mind until needed..
I guess that makes me a grey area ' crim'

or a man with a set of plastic butter knives...???
oops..

Speaking of piracy ...
Is this add currently airing in the UK actually encouraging Coninental Europe to access UK TV content ?
Double standards ??

Ah! But is he sending them knowing most of the content is geo-blocked , in an attempt to wind them up ?
Perhaps he wants the whole of Europe to think he is an ars**ole like many of us do already.

Good point ...but it still sows the seed of curiosity without explanation does it not ?
