And if you do have rogue ones, a deft flick of some fine nosed pliers might help reduce any free-play.

The error correction means you either get the picture or you don't.

So any cable that works will do - great news for us cheapskates!

It's just like any other "High quality" thing sold at a premium price, like platinum plated plugs, oxygen free cables, record players on really bouncy suspension, it's all crap, but if people really believe they're getting the best by spending loads of money, then let them, they're the ones losing out...

Also there is a problem with the very expensive thick cables, they put a lot of stress on the HDMI socket on the TV, particularly when on a cantilever wall mount , I'm now buying flat HDMI leads for a few pounds a piece.

I've always just got the £3-odd ones from the likes of Home Bargains; nothing wrong with them!

Since the HDMI standard is one way, if you find you do not get a picture at the other end, try swapping round the cable.

Saved me hunting round for another in the depths of the van (shudders) on at least two occasions

I use right angle flex HDMI adapters.
