A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

Whilst convenient , moreso in the social distant age, I'm not eally sure about this alternatine to the standard procedure.

This is not new this was invented and patented in Israel nearly 20 years ago First used for oesophageal endoscopy but obviously later approved for the full journey as it had no reverse gear. It is a very effective alternative, am not sure how it gets sterilized after first use though:-rofl2

I'd want it boiled in 100% sulphuric acid at the very least.

Single use, so we'll end up with thousands of them in the sewage treatment plants.

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!
Having had a "conventional" colonoscopy myself 6 yrs ago (with negative results!), I can assure everyone that it is NOT a pleasant proceedure but the overall time for the examination itself was less (about 60-70 mins) than that required using the capsule method, and I didn't then have to wear that belt or take the "monitoring kit" back to the hospital

OTOH, the "preparations" beforehand appear to be pretty much the same for both methods, take just as long and are just as "uncomfortable" - and I absolutely DARE anyone to risk driving themselves to/from either type of appointment because your bowels are in a "constant state of liquid flux" for at least a day before and afterwards - and thus the "results" are thus likely to be seen on the car seat (I sat on thick towels whilst my wife drove the 15 miles each way - and every moment I was dreading what might "happen" if I were so much as to cough, sneeze, or even just move a bit on the seat)!

My friend's mum has one years ago. They told her what was going to happen and after some thought she asked, 'How will they get the film out?'

Have to say that after speaking to a mate of mine who had one, I would probably opt for the capsule one, if the choice was available.

I had a colonoscopy seven years ago to confirm my diverticular disease and whilst the prep for it is unpleasant, I was fortunately given too much white intravenous relaxant so missed the whole event.

My wife had a virtual colonoscopy a couple of years ago. IIRC she had to avoid eating certain things for 4 or 5 days and then fast for 24 hours before swallowing a special liquid. She was then scanned by, I think, a CT scanner.

More likely an MRI scanner because that can image soft tissue, whereas a CT scanner can only really image hard stuff like bones.

Fairly sure not an MRI. The scanner picked up on wherever the special liquid coated. An MRI scanner is a very noisy beast IIRC.

Not true, following my illness last year and my subsequent breathing difficulties I had a CT scan of my chest which confirmed emphysema and bronchiectasis, neither of these issues had been visible with an X-ray which makes you wonder why they give them, MRI's are more for muscle, bone, tendons and ligaments, PET scans are for blood flow oxygen flow and tumours.

The liquid Paul's wife had to drink would have been barium, it allows a CT scanner to produce a high quality 3D image
