Sky Hd + Multiroom, Standard Zone 2 mini dish

Okay so im a complete newbie and am looking to start experimenting with satellite! Ive done all the jailbreaking, xbox/playstation hacking etc and this is my new challenge

Right well currently i have just a standard sky hd set up with another hd multiroom box. Im looking into purchasing a dreambox or technomate of some description (advice would be appreciated) and was wondering whether it would be possible to motorise my mini dish nd link to the receiver that way?
I really want as low a cost set up as possible as well to be frank, pennys are sparce at the moment and i dont really understand all the techno names for things so be kind :)

Welcome to the forum.

You can motorise a minidish with limited satellite viewing but advisable to get yourself an 80cm on a motor.
 
Even with the hd multiroom? it fills all the slots on the bottom of the lnb as far as i can see and i really am a noob to this
 
You can buy an Octo LNB for more connections, motorised dishes and Sky digiboxes are not good bedfellows, if you want to motorise, set up a separate dish.
 
What problems am i likely to encounter? i mean realistically i just want as low a cost set up as possible as to begin with ill probably just use it for football
 
Well for starters the Sky boxes can go flaky if they lose their permanent satellite connection for any length of time.

The satellite hobby can be done on a budget - Ive lifted old satellite dishes out of skips on a couple of occasions and they are fine after a clean up.

If you are looking for football the cost of a dish and motor is going to be the smallest part of your final bill anyway!
 
sorry flaky? My only problem is my sky dish sits on the front of my house and if i can help it i dont want to have two on the front
I know i figured however i do know people who live in italy and spain so thats the next dilemna
 
You may be able to mount a larger dish for motorising on the rear of the property using a TK bracket/pole arrangement. Depends on line of sight and access.

I dont understand what you mean by flaky? really not to keen on the idea of having two dishes on the house but my line of sight for all the majors is fine im in the pennines
 
also isnt there a law against two satellites on your home?
 
If you are using a motorised dish and do not leave it parked on Astra 28.2 overnight, you will have problems with the Sky digiboxes, also if the think they have lost signal, they often remember it and continue to show no signal even after the dish has returned to the Astra 28.2 position.
 
so im fine with a mini dish and a 100m dish! good stuff
With the mounting on the back of the house surely the dish needs to be higer than the roof i presume?
and if you were to motorise your dish but make sure you had it at 28.2 when you are not using it it would be fine no?
 
also is it worth buying a dm500 or are there better options available

No, as long as you have line of sight, it can be just around a metre above the guttering. Difficult to say without seeing the property.

Didigboxes works best with a permanent connection to Astra2.
 
the dificult part being i'll need someone to comeout and fit a load of cabling etc :/ so basically not advisbale to use the same dish but itll work?
any preference to a box? i just want a basic box to begin with

Prepare for a lot of learning if you do. If you know linux then it shoudl be easy. Not a bad starter box before you jump in HD etc.

Is that easiar to set up than the dream? i can only see prices around 80/90 quid compared to 60 for the dm
