I bought a set of two homeplugs to go from the router to the xbox a few years back now. Now I want to add another one for downstairs for a VU. Would any other Homeplug work fine or will I need to find one from the same company?
 
Nowadays? In theory yes, in practice quite often not.

Two years ago? No chance of inter-company compatibility (and possibly not even same company after that length of time).
 
You could try an OpenMedia wifi bridge. You can get them on eBay and might be cheaper than another home plug. They claim to be able to make any device with an Ethernet port wireless and work well with a number of sat boxes.
 
Thanks for the help but just found out that I can use a cheap £5 USB dongle for Wifi. Well chuffed :)
