how a website knows my exact location?

Hello!
today i read in the newspapar,that many xxx sites ,like adultfriendfiender and others can tell you the exact name of the town where you live,from the ip itself,the provider i think dont give the information,maybe some,of the main location of the provider itself,but not the exact village and city name,when i visit some of this sites,its exactly what the write in the report,the websites knows where you access from,i know,that the can get from the routing process,that have no strict ways,when someone acces a website from somewhere,the answer from the users computer can go around the wold and back,and not directly from computer a to computer b for example!
the other theory is,that the install a trojaner,that collect everything you type,and got your exact location,from the text you type,that the trojaner always collect,and transmit to the server!
what trace and routing tools,i can try,that show me the way,about the complete process accesing a website?
since i read the report,i dont know what i should beleive,and what is true or not,when i go to _checkdomain.com
typing in my ip,it show me only that my provider is located in vienna,but it does not show,where my location is,that a website,anayleized everything,what broweser i use etc,for me is also known,but the complete prozess behind,i dont know all details about it?

It's just a database of IPs. Smaller databases are available for free. Larger databases (more detailed info) can cost quiet a bit but are good for advertising. It's not foolproof though. It relies on ISPs providing geographical information about the IP blocks they own. My IP comes up about 50 km from where I really am. And, for example if you live in the UK and are using AOL you will be recognised as being in the US by some databases.

Most of the google sites that invade the PC are about 30 miles out, and come up with some really obscure villages as my location.


Not as bad as two of my customers though a few miles towards London. In a civil partnership but they still get ads suggesting they choose 'Horny lady from Horsham' or 'Godalming Girl is gagging for you' whenever they access their Hotmail account.

yes.very strange indead,i recogneized,that same websites,on the same provider,accesed on diffrent location,did not show the same results!
also i read one time a report,that also on ebay,when someone search the same articel on diffrent location the results are not exactly the same,i cannot confirm is this true or not!
but this kind of webstites,collect more information from us,then we think,what programs i need,to listen the comunication,from my pc to the website and back?
aol we dont have here,maybe our country to small for this large provider
other private isps,when routing all there website,over a main dataswich or what ever it calls,or large isp data hoster,over a swtich in amsterdam,not everone,shows the location of there country you live,thats all very difucult to recunstruct the way,of a website access,
many websites,do like a random prinzip results,but all villages the show are not far away,but mostly always diffrent,when the provider,did not "give"the information in detail over the ip to the website,there must be a large unkown
location data base between the user,and the website acces itself,so more that i think,so more questions i have,better i stop thinking about this
