Hi all.
As the title suggests. I want to stream to my tablet from outside my home network.
I can stream via the webinterface when inside my home network, but I understand it has to be done differently from a different location.
I have seen a tutorial on it, but it was way to complex for me to understand. Can anyone help me out please?
Thanks for your help

No, works the same here.

Problem is that you will struggle to stream outside the network so forget about the high bandwidth channels. This is on a PC so not sure how it works with a tablet

You will need to setup a remote connection via a dyndns address and bounce of that addy to give you remote access to the duo.

So I install the dyndns software which gives me an address.
Then in my tablet browser I type that address which will allow me to access my services via my router?
Is that correct?

Dyndys is a website not a bit software.

Not needed if you have a static ip address from your broadband supplier.

No I don't have a static ip. So I create an account with dyndns which keeps tabs on what my ip address is at all times?
Then with my tablet I go to dyndns website and login, which then routes me to my home network?
Is that correct?

That's correct. dyndns will give you the address by keeping tabs on your home IP address.

I'm not familiar with the vu+ duo, but to get anything outside your network, you're going to need to forward the content via a port or put the vu+ duo in the DMZ.

What that means is, your router assigns an (internal) IP address to each device inside your network (most routers by default use: 192.168.x.x).
Your router probably also has a DMZ setting, where you can identify a specific IP address on your network that you will allow to be accessible outside the router firewall (this is not advisable for any storage you have for sensitive personal information, but probably OK for streaming media content). Set that DMZsetting to be the IP address of your vu+ duo. Anytime you use your dyndns web address from an external device, it should go straight to the web interface provided by the vu+ duo.

If you let me know the specific brand and model of your router, I can provide more detailed instructions on how to configure it.

If that doesn't work, or you want to try the port forwarding method, let me know.

NB nobody should need to know, or ask you for, your network password in providing any assistance with this. So don't give any of that information away. Please let me know if this helps or you need anymore specific assistance.

Thanks for that.
I have a virgin media superhub, netgear cg3101d.
I've had a look on the settings and don't want to put the wrong thing in the wrong place. Could make life very difficult for myself.
This is what the dmz setting looks like.

DMZ Host

Respond to Ping on WAN Port
DMZ Address
192.168.0.
MTU Size 0
(256-1500 octets, 0 = use default)

Do I put the duos ip in the box? Then How would I access it from the remote computer? Would I have to type the real ip in the address bar? Problem is I don't have a static ip so I guess I would need a dyndns account, is that correct?
Thanks again.

Get yourself a dyndns account and enter details in the router control panel

dyndns.jpg

Then setup a reserved ip for the satellite receiver in the LAN setup section.

Then set up port forwarding.

My slingbox uses a non-standard port, so anything that comes in on that port goes to the slingbox, my ip camera uses a different port and both work happily together.

Thanks a lot buddy, will give it a go over the coming days.
Could I then just go into my dyndns account from the remote location(tablet) which will then allow me access to the duo?

Yep, just type your dyndns address into the address bar like _http://ak1975.dyndns.org:55000 the last bit being the port you've allocated to the receiver.

I finally got around to it. I have setup my dyndns account and I can access my vu+duo from outside my home network via the openwebif.
I can get as far as seeing all the channels listed in the bouquet but when I click on the stream button, it downloads the file but the video player can't play it.
Any idea on a free player I can use to stream the m3u file?
Vlc isn't available on android yet so can't use that.
Any other ideas?
Thanks guys
