I ordered an engraved Immersion Heater Switch t'other day, from the Bay of Fleas.

It was £6.20 and offered with "free" delivery by 2nd Class snail.

Upon despatch, it seems they've sent it by Herpes and not only that, it will be delivered tomorrow (Sunday).

Not sure how Sellers come to make such choices as the profit, if any, must be miniscule.

We don't know what is the actual cost of the item to the seller.
It could be £1 for all we know. They probably have a good delivery rate as well.
A margin of profit of 10%-20% is probably better than nothing.
Anyway, if you are a happy customer, then you will probably buy again from the same seller.

To make anything in selling replacement parts we had to mark them up 4 times the purchase price, but we bought in bulk.

The big markup covered all costs we incurred in the sale, like placing the order into the system, running down the part, boxing and shipping, and final invoicing.

What is it engraved with?

Aye.

The old unit is a bulky and crude Economy Seven Control Unit and I wanted an unambiguous replacement device that won't confuse Frau Lazarus ;)

I was just surprised that a Seller would elect to send such a low-priority, low-value item by a Premium Courier service (In terms of Sunday delivery - I know the words Hermes and Premium rarely appear together, in fact Hermes and service tend not to either) rather than by the advertised snailmail. Maybe he's just opened an Account with them and got some freebies?

As they say a picture paints a thousand words

True.

How about this one?

You're showing your scrapbook off again aren't you. :)

Almost inevitably, Herpes' Tracking Site hasn't been update so I'm entirely in the dark.

Shame it wasn't a Light Switch I ordered.

Hermes!
Ordered some bug-killer bombs yesterday. Seller sent the "despatched" email and then I got a Hermes tracking message - but without a tracking number! Contacted seller - parcel will only get to his local Hermes depot on Monday, and, THEN, the tracking number will be allocated and sent
