How do you connect a Technomate (Newcamd) to a Dreambox running CCcam?

This has probably been asked 100 times before, but I have been going round in circles for the last few days searching numerous sites (including this one) without really finding the answer I'm looking for :-ohcrap
So, appologies if I shouldn't be asking such a noob question, please forgive me?

Basically I have a DM500s running CCcam & NewCS with my fully subbed Sky card. Connected to this is an Icecrypt S4000HD using octaCAM to read from the DM's CCcam.

I've now bought a Technomate 6900HD Super running 6.88p firmware which I have read should allow sharing via "newcamd"... does this work with CCcam? If not, do I need to install newcamd on the DM500s?... and would that work alongside my current setup? i.e. can I still run CCcam and newcamd simultaneously.


Any help or advice would be greatly recieved.

There is no need to load newcamd on your DM500s as CCcam will connect to newcamd servers

Read the CCcam.cfg file for information on how to do this then post again if still stuck.
 
But I'm going the other way... I have a CCcam server and wish to connect a newcamd client to it.
Will that still work?
 
You mentioned you're using NewCS. This is hosting your card. You can connect newcamd directly to NewCS as they are using the same protocol. This will bypass CCcam as you don't need to connect to it, as it is not hosting your card.

Read up on newcamd about how to connect to a newcamd server (NewCS).

I will give that a go.

Out of interest, do you know where the config file for NewCS resides off the top of your head? I set it up with my boxkey but can't bloomin find it now and can't find the resource of info that I used at the time :(

You'll need to make a user for the newcamd box to connect to, but this can be done from the NewCS web interface. I don't think you'll need to modify the config manually.

Just one thing, as you have it, you're card will never take an entitlements update, as the CCcam / NewCS combination will not update the card. However, by adding this newcamd box you may find it will update the card for you. MGcamd will do it so it may be the same.
 
Hmm, I thought I checked that location.. I'll have another look when I get home from work - maybe I was logged into the wrong box :(
What are the entitlements updates? Are they needed to keep up with Sly's config changes etc? As a fully paid customer is this required?
Would you reccomend binning off NewCS in favour of MGcamd? If so, will this still work with CCcam?
 
Entitlement updates keep your card alive. Without them it will die !
How long have you been running it in its current config ?
It's not to keep up with config changes as such, it's an internal design of the way the card works.
As a paying customer you still need to update the card.
You cannot use MGCamd to host the card. Only NewCS 1.67 or CCcam 2.1.4.

The simplest way to do it would be to run it directly in CCcam 2.1.4 which now updates the card just fine.
Do away with NewCS completely.
However, this then returns us to your original question, can you connect newcamd to CCcam. I'm not sure, I'd have to research it.

Ah well I'm glad you told me that!
I've not been running it for long like this, probably about 3 weeks. I keep having to change back to my SkyHD box to keep the missus happy until I have the Icecrypt running nicely. Perhaps that's why the card is still alive.

So if I run CCcam 2.1.4, should that read the card ok? Could I then put MGCamd onto it to share out to my Technomate?

Yes CCcam 2.1.4 will read the card perfectly but I don't think you can connect an MGCamd / Newcamd client to it.
 
it sounds like this issue is going around in circles. Stubs, if you want to use MGCamd or Newcamd clients than you will need newcs for the card to work, update (with MGcamd) , etc... As stated CCcam works with the 963 card but you will not be able to use your other clients. It seems straight forward to me...
 
I'm sorry.. I was just trying to get my head around what needs to be installed on my "server" DM500 to allow my Icecrypt & Technomate to connect to it & without the card dying on me.

I'll go on what's been said and try out the other methods. Thanks for the help
