How long do Dual LNBs last?

Aoplogies if this has been coverred amy times. But I have a dish with a dual LNB which was replaced last June and both LNBs are now faulty. It was one first then the second a couple of months ago.
Is there a preferred make as Im fed up paying for a device that donesnt work for very long.

Your advice is appreciated.

Not sure what you mean by dual?

Monoblock (Two heads) or single (Twin Output)?

Either way, life should be well over five years unless exposed to brutal and relentless sunshine ..............

Inside the plastic case is a well sealed die-cast container so water ingress shouldn't be a problem. That said, the weak point is the F connection (s) which can be a problem if not sealed.
 
Thanks Tivu, itys got two heads. If it was the F connection, then I would have lost both at the same time I think.

What Brand/Model is the Monoblock?
 
Also, are you using it for Hotbird and Astra1?

What size/make of dish is it mounted on?

Which Satellite is the dish aligned to?

Which head appears not to work? (ie the one at the focus, or the offset one?)

The reason for asking is that setting up Monoblocks can be finicky to set up correctly, particularly if the optimal 80cm dish is not being used.

Then there is the question of LNB settings in your Silvercrest.
 
Reference to dual LNb; the word is rarely used these days. It's a 2 output fixed H & V LNb for old 2 wire multiswitch systems.
 
Its called a Black Pro single monoblock , manufacturer looks like inverto.tv, working from a zoomed photo.
 
Nowt wrong with Inverto products.

Anyway ............... I've given you another set of questions to tackle since you answered that one!
 
system is a 80cm dish, Inverto Black pro Single Monoblock 6 degree 40mm LNB, with single cable going to one recieiver and off that another cable to a downstairs receiver. See I'm learning the jargon!
 
So you've got a Loop Through arrangement between two receivers, eh?

Well there are operational constraints there which, when we get to the bottom of this, may be the root of your problems.

You cannot use both receivers simultaneously to control LNB band and polarity switching, so one of the receivers needs to be in Standby to allow the other full control.

If you don't you will get conflicts eg one receiver perhaps sending 13v to the LNB and the other trying to send 18V. Similarly, if one is sending a 22KHz tone and the other isn't, then the one sending the tone will dominate.

At best you'll end up getting missing channels, at worst operate short-circuit protection or cause damage.

How are you using the receivers .......................... ?

Ive just been onto the website and it should have 2 year warranty. Therefore i should ask my installer to come back and rectify the problem. If the Dish has moved through the wind, is this the responsibility of the installer? Please advise what is best practice on this.
 
I'd be really surprised if you have unfortunately come across two faulty Inverto LNB's (of any variety) in less than a year. If you are experiencing failure of one head then the other it sounds like water ingress or possibly a dish misalignment, which you are inadvertently 'curing' by replacing the LNB (and maybe moving the dish when you do so).

Have you something overhanging the LNB like leaky guttering which can subject it to a tap like shower of water? I have had to replace my Inverto Black Ultra once but that was due to extreme summer heat (no, really!). Other than that it functions through sun, snow and all other types of weather without missing a beat.

I've just got the one receiver and checked the connector, re-tuned and have Astra on line now, so its half way there. Thanks for your assistance guys.

Ok, good.

Don't forget to assign DiSEqC " A" to Hotbird and "B" to Astra 1 (or to check it's already set like that).

Although I might not have hit the nail on the head squarely enough - we shall see!
 
And when you've got one box working as it should, turn it off, reconnect the loop cable to the second receiver. Put the first box into standby and turn on the second box.

Repeat the DiSEqC settings and scans as per the first box.

Then, for normal use, don't forget to put the "slave" box into standby.

If you really want full independent control from both receivers, then you need a twin output Monoblock.
 
No. DiSEqC is not just for motors, but is used for selecting LNBs by controlling DiSEqC switches: Your Monoblock has an integral DiSEqC switch to enable the appropriate head to be selected.

Have a look at "DiSEqC" on eg Wikipaedia.

If you fail to assign DiSEqC Ports for your Monoblock it cannot work as intended.
