How Russia won the space race...apparently

This was quite an interesting program, partially because I am from Russia and Gagarin's first flight landing was 20 miles from my home town of Saratov. Incidentally, he also studied there and we have a university named after him.

But anyway, considering what they managed back in the 50's and 60's, it seems an almost crying shame that Russia is struggling now - only really providing rockets and some engines for the space game.

Sad truth is humanity is too wrapped up in war with its self, a "first to the moon etc" get the two cold war super powers going thru the sixty's and seventies. Since the 80's public interest in the space race flagged and Putin's Russia seems to be all about flexing its aging muscle. China's economic power could well do something big in space, but they nuts seem to be to busy building man made islands off Taiwan........ "War what is it good for...." Think we all know the second line.
