I felt sorry for the Stevenage Site Manager - 30 years service and his first launch (postponed until after he'd gone home)

Absolutely loved it ..
When it first started ....I was bit dismayed to think the programme might actually be a bit patronizing ...
but ..once the technical stuff came to the fore ..it got really interesting ..
I particularly liked the section on footprint shaping as relates to 'dish' surface contouring ..
and I learned something today ..
I didn't realise that such a wide variation in eliptical orbital positioning could occurr forowing the launch..requiring up to 50% fuel expenditure to attain correct orbit ...before shifting around the arc to its final destination.

Was a bit upset that they didn't mention the 100s if not 1000s of amateur satellite addicts that followed 2Fs every move once orbit was attained..
:D
..but then ....why would they ....lol
10 out of 10 Auntie for a thoroughly enthralling hour of TV..

The bit when they were mating the two sections together was an eye opener - if Ive got a couple of mm gap to play with I hide it with duck tape! :D

I'm curious to know exactly how much of the RF cabling and hardware is fully duplicated, you'd expect pretty much all of it?

Me too.

I just watched it and I think I spotted bits from Astra 2F, 2E and I assume it was 1N that went into space (eventually). I guess the average viewer will just think it's all part of one satellite.

Great programme.

I thought i'd missed it as i spent the night in A&E with my daughter, shes still in there today :(

Finally got home and afetr reading this thread i decided to fire up the Virgin Media box only to find its there on catch up TV. I'll be watching it this evening with a few pints of Magners :D

So if you've missed it and you have Virgin Media cable TV you will find it there.

You can also find it on BBC iPlayer (UK Only)

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

Ijust caught the part where the narrator mentioned that the only satellites viewed in the UK are at 28 degrees elevation. Surely something wrong, or did I mishear it

Regardless of the figure stated, the whole sentence is rubbish, somewhat detracting from the programme as a whole.

19 minutes into the programme - 'All dishes in the UK are pointing to a satellite at 29 degrees above the horizon'. :-Nooo O-no

Perhaps it's the fact the younger generation just don't understand decimal points, particularly in relation to degrees!!!

I'd have hoped, considering the OU were involved with this programme, that they'd have got it spot-on!!
