How to distinguish dead LNB?

Hi,

I have a 100cm motorised dish. The other day I tried flicking through channels on various satellites but I no longer get a lock on a dish. The SNR shows as 0%, AGC is always above 95%. This alignment is fine and is controlled by USALS on my vu+ duo.

The only thing I can think of may be a duff LNB. I only installed everything about 3 months ago. Could rain possibly mess up the LNB?

Any ideas why to maybe my SNR is now 0%.

Not sure how you can be certain the alignment is fine if you have no signals - several reports of degraded installations in recent bad weather.

Also, you may find that the connection on the motor end of the LNB spur cable has come loose with repeated panning of the dish: if not correctly restrained near the motor end, it will be dragged loose as the dish moves one way and will not fully re-tighten as the dish returns the other way.

Common problem, easily resolved by the judicious use of a cable tie.
 
Well I thought alignment was ok because I have a mini dish directly underneath it pointed on 28.2e and when i set the motorised dish to be on 28.2e too it's alignment is exactly how the mini dish is.
 
Not really possible to say that with total confidence ........... even a degree would make a lot of difference and the perspective and parallax errors make it nigh on impossible to compare accurately by eye. And that's just azimuth. Even harder to compare effective elevation as the design and offset of the dishes will be different.

Nevertheless, my favoured cause would be the loose connector from motor to LNB.
 
Sometimes with a faulty LNB you'll get one set of channels, either Horizontal, or Vertical, do you get any different readings on different polarity's?
Have you checked the cable connection, at both ends, to see if theu are loose?
It could be water ingress, check if any water has got into the cable.
