I have DB 7020 got it last week
would like to flash a new image how to do that.
I have been reading all last week still find it very difficult.

please help
 
I take it you've read the guide?

Can you let us know what problems you have had.

Explain your set-up...

Internet connection?
PC?
Null Modem cable?
Ethernet?
Images you have tried?
Errors?

In other words - the more information you can give the better!
 
Not sure if that guide is what you want in terms of flashing the 7020. You can use the null cable method, but most people use the Web interface method to flash, its simplest and probably quickest. I have done a dozen flashes this way, and the only problems seem a dodgy image from Hyrda. A guide I found somewhere, slightly modified.

1- Hard reset box, or turn off at back.

2- Switch on the dreambox while holding the front panel lower button (Lower Channel Button).

3- Keep holding till ( *** STOP *** ) appears with the IP of your box just above it.

4- Now you are ready to upload a new flash image.

5- Open you browser and put the address : http://(box ip)

6- Click firmware down the bottom, chose your firmware, and press ok.

7- It will then upload your firmware to the box and flash it all automatically. Once updated it will say finished. Then simply reset your box!

Note: Probably best to use opera, firefox, something like that. I use opera, it tells you the progress of the uploading unlike IE which is handy.

Also you want to setup your networking first before you do this, make sure that works fine, test it, etc.

Recommended...Gemini image. I have tried them all for the 7020S. Hydra never worked for me, although it is suppose to be good. Gemini however in my opinion is excellent. Still supported by the authors, excellent PC side sofware, you wont be dissappointed.
 
Sorry what is Web interface method
what type of cable you need to use.
I have a broadband from my neighbour via wireless in my pc
I have Cross over cable and null modum cable which one shall i use

The web interface method is the one I described. You can network your box with your pc and do it that way if you cant run a cable to the router. You could use a wireless ethernet bridge to get your box onto the internet via your broadband, you should really do that at some point to fully take advantage of what your box can do and make your life alot easier.

can I use a cross over cable directly from the pc to the db. without a roter.

When I get to stage 7 of this procedure (using IE) the screen goes blank after a few seconds and nothing else happnes, what does this indicate ?
 
Hi heyjoe,
First thing I would say to you is start your own thread as there is no point bringing old one back most of the time.
Second is try Firefox browser and make sure you are hard wired, I sometime have a glitch when I use my wireless connection but if my memory serves me right Firefox is the recomended browser for reflashing your 7020s.

The flash could take some time Even just to start so let it be for a min or 2 :)

BTW Rewoking an old thread like this could be fine sometimes as it (usually) contains some answers and some good questions :) That is If You read the whole thread first
