How to edit bin files?

Hi
I use Picbined editor and while I have no problems editing hex files ,when I find a bin file ,i don't recognize the ID'S and have never successfully edited bin file .What am I doing wrong?

I haven't tried editing a bin file Guardian, mainly because I didn't have a use for them, you could try using swapbinhex and then edit in hex format though.
