Hi friends ..
Took me almost 2 days to create a database using an ali editor for my openbox S9HD ..
Now its completed I found there was no facility to upload this database which consists of just satellites and transponders (No channel data)
What I need to do is merge this UDF file (user database) with an ABS image as used by the openbox series ..so that I can then upload the combined UDF/ABS image back to the Openbox ..
Does anyone know how to do this ?
What editor /Tools can do the job ?
In short I may have created it in the wrong format ..but thats what I naturally assumed was the correct way to do this ..
Had I downloaded an ABS image then deleted all the database info ..and replaced it by hand with my own ..there wouldn't have been a problem..
But not knowing this ..I just kept typing and saving in UDF format ...which is now useless and invisible to the Openbox..
If I can't find a solution ..I'll have to re-type every satellite and transponder from 66 East to 58 West ...
Daunting and making me feel physically sick at the prospect.
I also thought doing it this way I'd make a database which could also be used ..not only for the Openbox S9HD but also for the Skybox F3..
that too is a non starter unless I find a solution.

Wish I could help Evan, but never having had a linux stb I have not any experience to draw upon, I would however have expected the database information to be in xml as I was under the impression this was the standard format for linux, satellite databases is it not?

Thanks for the sympathy Topper ...
Sadly not regarding the Openbox series ..
Here are a couple of screengrabs of the AliEditor open one of which shows my database to the right ..
I can load it up ok ..but cannot import it on to a live image ...although I _can_ open a full .abs openbox image with it ..
it must be possible ...but this so called official editor is crap in its functionality ..to say the least.

No bother ..they just cleared the approval process ...lol

Could try Setedit HD100 VS. You can save your .udf list and convert to .abs. I have the trial version, but don't have any .abs files to convert, so can't try it. Probably needs the paid for version anyway.

just been having a look about and seem's you can merge stuff with setedithd100 tool, have a lok here, -http://www.gforum.tv/board/1927/505812/openbox-skybox-s12-hd-pvr-firmware.html

I hope this can help you.

A bit late.

Sorry, I meant I have a .udf channel list, but I think I do need the Setedit paid version to be able to convert to .abs.

So it looks like I might end up buying setedit ..
Which depends just how expensive it is ..
BUT ..unless I can verify it has the ability to merge ...then it would be a waste of money anyway ..
Do we have anyone on the group who owns the paid version ?
It would be a bonus if they could confirm this function before I part with my hard earned..
??
cheers mates ...
I'll keep digging but this looks like the only way forward so far..

Well i've been looking all over the net for you, but i'm struggling to find if it definately works, i will look again during the day and see if i can find out.

Have you came across STBHD Channels Edit tool? from what i read it Can Split your TP_prog.dbs in to two udf files then when you edit them it can merge them back together again then you can upload to the stb via the usb. I don't really know if this helps any, i'm still looking for info on the other one.

Problem solved ..
Had a flash of inspiration whilst at work today..

It seems the UDF format in which I had saved my database is supported by the ali editor ...but for Serial transfer.
Dug out my old serial null modem rs232 cable ...which hasn't been used for years ..
The UDF file uploaded from a laptop to the Openbox without any problems.
Method:-
select the UDF database file and load up in the Ali editor..
Put the Openbox in standby
connect the laptop to the S9 with the cable
In Ali editor select 'process'
Select Download PC>STB
activate ...and bring the openbox out of standby ..
The serial port automatically handshakes and the UDF database is transferred.

Ok ..now that I have my Sat/transponder database in the S9 ..I could then export it before any channels scanned to usb stick.
..as a TV_PROG file ..
This is now available for anyone who wants it ..
It _should_ be uploadable to any openbox variant including the Skybox F3..
write it to usb stick and upload in the files flash menu (top of the list) to your Openbox/F3

As stated this is a clean list of sats and transponders from 66 east to 58 west made from Lyngsat data this weekend just gone..
So fairly up-to-date..
NO channels scanned ..as these are then selectable by you to scan..depending on what your dish can see
All Ku ..no C

I've acted on your comment and fished it out onto the Thread - no idea why it went in to Moderation in the first place!

Thanks Gordon ..
Yep ..it happened last night with the screengrabs I uploaded to this same thread..
??
You might want to grab a copy yourself ..
It _should_ be ok for the F3 also

Thanks uploaded to my openbox s10 work very well please update intelsat 7/10 transponders blind scan works very well

Thanks for the feedback Spora...
I notice you are in Capetown...
..and yes I only _tended_ to bias the transponders toward the ones accessible in Europe.
By all means complete the missing S African transponder list and reupload a fuller zip if you feel up to the task..

Just a warning for anyone using the Sat/TP file uploaded ..
I personally have no problems with it ...but I'm told by dr.zin on th openbox forum that such a large number of transponders even though all are not neccessarily active will consume a fair amount of memory ..such that this may restrict the space for channel storage.
Since most folk wont want to attempt to scan the whole arc ...TV/Radio/encrypted/fta...I can't see this being an issue ...but it might be wise to take a complete firmware image before using it just in case ..
That way you can always roll back if a problem occurs.
As I said earlier ..I used this TV_Prog list to successfully scan the entire arc without issues ..and logged in 2777 channels TV FTA ...
And used the same list successfully on the Skybox F3.
But I felt it only fair I should pass on the warning I was given.
A damned shame imo that the openbox series has such memory constraints...but I guess they don't cater for the inquisitive nature of a dxer....
The boxes are more geared to TV watchers etc..
