How to record life internet streams

Hi guys, maybe someone has an answer:

I want to download or record somehow some life sport streams from the internet, and then edit them (shorten them), is there a way of doing this? Program? trick? I heard of some that placed a video camera in front of the screen but that seems to crude for my liking.

Crappy and lousy camera operation ..but maybe you can get the info you need from the audio description.?
Which is English..
