Hello, a HDR-1000S 500gb locally for sale here, low price. Only to be used on 28.2 & am not expecting iplayer etc to work (ip location). But I suppose it'll give the 7 days epg (missing on my other receivers). OK tuners\picture? Worth buying?

Thanks

If price low enough go for it.

Was the the freesat box of choice ( fringe ) in its day.

Good luck

I'm very happy with my Humax Foxsat HDR. Great picture, very sensitive, and allows recording from different satellites, so is more versatile than a Sky box. Not sure about the EPG and can't check as am on holiday.

Yo! got it, new and unused. Rare to see anything like this here, was someone from UK who had given up plans for 28.

Full epg is very welcome, picture looks superb. Tuners seems to have extra++ sensitivity for weak signals. Setup was a revelation, entered a London postcode, clicked 'Freesat', scanned in a moment, any and all channels fell into place. Now have some fun with remote and menus.

Congratulations - I have a 1010S and it generally think it is a good box.
It seems you have already come to the same conclusion...

In some respects it's better than my FoxSat, but part of the UI is a bit more, erh, modernised than the FoxSat.
Only thing that I really don't like are the clicking buttons in the RCU.
The remote control mfgs keep telling me that these keys with membrane contacts used are actually faster and more responsive than the (cheaper) rubber-keys.
But I find it very difficult to get accustomed to the noise...

Incidentally, I have just returned from an 8-hour meeting today (in Warszaw) which included a bunch of the Humax technical guys.
The main thing that strikes me with Humax is their technical no-BS approach.
Their engineers are experienced, and know what their talking about. They also do not over-promise / under-deliver.
The software stack in both the FoxSat and the HDR-10x0 are mature and well-proven technologies.
And possibly that is one of the main assets of the Humax boxes - they don't crash very often.
(well sometimes they do - but then Again all software does!)
Well-made, and does the job.

In addition to that: the reception is top-of-the-range (without necessarily being *the best*) on almost all Humax boxes (at least the ones I have), sp I have no hesitation in recommending getting one of them.
I also opened my 6-year old Foxsat the other day - and there were no signs of bulging capacitors or anything like that. Again, well made.
In short: They work, and keep on doing so!

The thing I didn't like about the HDR was the slow response of the menus and the timeshift bug. Put a programme on pause, then back on play, when the next programme started it cut straight to that so you could miss the end of the timeshift programme you were watching. The only way was to press record so you could watch it later, most annoying!

Humax's HDR-1000S outputs in 1080p progressive if your display supports this, resulting in far better picture quality that the first generation Humax HDR which only has 1080i. It's worth an upgrade for this alone.

I wonder how well these'd work on a VPN configured on your router?

I have the 1TB model and they're brilliant bit of kit. Great find especially in Norway.

^^^ Thanks for the posts & input. A vpn would surely work ok, will look into it someday now that I got the box, ftm am using solutions on my laptop to access iplayer etc now and then.

HDR-1000S mini-test (sat only):
+
Excellent picture
Sensitive tuners
Very easy setup and software upgrade (using 2.02.46)
Easy menus (could be faster, but any faster may scare old people :O), good epg
Good timeshift (comment in post above maybe related to old software?)
Quiet HD and fan
-
Recordings can't be copied\back'ed up from hd
Not good for anything else than Freesat (nor is it meant to be)
Clicking remote (but good to hold and use)
Strange design + I hate glossy piano look (but does not matter)

Mini-verdict:
Instant setup, very good picture. Restricted techwise, sadly no need to stay up all night long experimenting and trying things out :O), must be the ideal Freesat box for any non-tech person (which is it's goal and purpose) and for those using freetime, even better than ideal. Here I bought it for the 7 days epg & the £85 sh price, for sat only. So far so (very) good.

Funny detail, postal code is the way to change frequency (best BBC here in periods of low signal is 10818 V (NI), so today moved house from London to Belfast :O)

Doesn't that put BBC One HD NI on 101 though?

It does. With HD signal fading away in the evening I can go to 108, which is 1 SD NI.

I'd personally probably go with one of the English SD regions on that TX. Since evening viewing is likely time I'd be watching.

But saying that I'd prefer Wales region on 101 and manage with the others in the 900s where ever I was.

Really? That was one of the plus points for the original HDR when I was looking to buy one. It was only possible to copy SD recordings - are you sure the 1000S isn't the same?

Hello, could not find any way to do it. & searching the web gives many results like this > https://myhumax.org/forum/topic/hdr1000s-unable-to-transfer-recordings-to-usb
Maybe taking out the disk and dock it to a pc, but even if it worked, very tedious compared to using ftp, usb or network.

Wow. As someone says in the link - a retrograde step indeed.

It's for sure meant for the normal home user, who will push the buttons like those on their microwave oven to get a job done, all is fine if the dish is cooked, not wondering about what more it should (or cannot) do.

Any lockdown and (lack of) software\menu options are afaik a Freesat specification, and Humax just built it accordingly. Accepting this, it does a fine job here, picture + epg + recording are great.

Update after a few days in use (sat):
picture is really excellent, recording working fine, great to have a full epg, tuners are making the most out of any weak signal, good remote.

Wishes: some more options here and there, like better menus\options regarding channel list editing\favorites\sorting (example: choice between stock list or favorite list as default on boot).
