Breaking away from the BBQ thread, the next few days are going to be a bit tough for residents of the islands in the Carribean and beyond, with sustained winds of 180MPH and estimated storm surges of up to 20ft.

The resort of Barbuda has lost communication with the outside world in the past hour as the hurricane made landfall. Antigua and The Virgin Islands are already seeing heavy rain and windspeeds increasing.

Florida commences a mandatory evacuation of the south coastal areas this morning in preparation for Irma which has an 80% probability of striking head on.

According to the World Surf League, 16-year-old Zander Venezia reportedly fell off his surfboard and hit a shallow reef at a beach called Box by Box. He and other surfers were riding huge waves generated by the Category Five hurricane on Tuesday.
