i have set my dish up to astra 28.2 just to see if i could get a satellite now i have some channels on astra but when i did a search on hotbird i got some channels on hotbird to as i say i am new to this so how is hotbird on the astra satellite

It's not mate, some of the frequencies on hotbird will be the same as on astra 2, that is why you will still find some channels.
