i have tonight started to assemble my motorised dish, and i am now stuck. I did some research and i thought that there was only 2 adjustments to make when setting it up, how wrong i am. Not only is there the angle setting on the motor, but there is also the settting on the dish as well. I am not really that sure which one i adjust, or do i adjust both ?? I have taken 3 photos of the offending item..the one on the left shows the angle setting for the motor, the one in the middle shows the dish angle setting...and the photo on the right shows the whole assembly. Can anyone please help me and possibly explain why there are 2 different angles to find ?? O-st

That is a horible clamp system on the dish, (is it a Gibertini clone ?) I would strongly advise going for something much more substantial.
 
At a guess, looks like an ISS or clone.
 
I recognise the clamp, I have fitted one of those, it was a no-name ebay special. Perfomed alright though, despite being a right PITA to assemble.
 
It is a ISS, got it from Wizard I agree that the quality is not really as good as i liked, but i have a budget (and a family) to keep. i have complained to wizardsatellite about the dish, it arrived dented, also i ordered a mesh dish, and they sent a solid one ! Also the supplied wall bracket had started to go rusty ! Just as well i have got a T&K bracket from work. Sorry if i am letting the side down, but dont pick on me..:-crying:-crying
 
Just as well you got T & Ks, because the supplied backet would have been no good for a motorised dish anyway.
 
I have looked at that info supplied by satelliteman, i do not entirely understand the dish angle setting. The markings are 20 through to 90. If my home location is longitude 2 degrees,9.8minutes west. Where do i from there ??? Sorry for sounding so thick !! Would you believe i am a electrician ??
 
Re: dish EL, some dish elevation scales are not accurate. Start off with the dish slightly up from vertical as a starting point (explained in the guide). Might be an idea to scan through the dish set up guides also in signature.

The elevation of your setup has more to do with your latitude (how far North/South you are from the equator) than your longitude (which comes into play when you set up the East/West offset from true South).

Have a look at some of the other guides on the site.

How can they possibly sell it then ? Afterall, it was a complete package sold by them, so surely the bracket must be safe for the job, or someone could get badly hurt if it falls down and hits someone..:-Nooo
 
Not a question of it falling down (the cable and wallclips should stop it from hitting somebody ;) ), but the mount may not be strong enough to put up with winds without twisting.

Probably because they are cheap, light, and easy to bundle in with the kit. If you want to use it on a motor, you need a lot of luck to get it working properly, and for it to stay that way. The elbow brackets have been known to sheer off, and the three point fxing brackets are diaboloically difficult to get vertical as there is no andjustment. The wall of the tubing is often also so thin, it crushes when you clamp the motor on.

T&Ks on the other hand, with a bit of scaffold and by following the guides, will will work properly without too much difficulty without having to cross your fingers.
 
Thanks for the vote of confidence Robbo.......I have got a T & K bracket, and i have also got myself a 2" diameter galvanised steel pole that has a wall thickness of 5mm...Oh Yes, its strong. I have also got 5 x 8mm Rawbolts to fasten it to the wall. Once to dish is finally set up, i will be appling threadlock to all adjustable nuts, and also galvafroid spray will be used to cover any exposed metalwork that is not galvanised. I have tonight installed the 25mtr run of coax from the rooftop to my PC in the lounge. All whats left is to fit the dish and hopefully after a quick set-up i will probably be back on here wondering what to do next...lol
