Christina is still parked at 1W ...
At some point I will have to remove and examine my Venture also ..as I believe it to be damaged ..
If true ..then I can say without hesitation ..
Worse than ..and shorter lived than any actuator I've fitted so far..
I can understand your frustration CJ ..as these were not cheap ...nor easy to get them from the US ..
and sorry buddy ..
short of calling it a reduction or step gear ...I wouldn't know what to call it..
certainly looks cheap n cheerful ..
I'd suggest getting a few ..as we poor saps will probably need them ..
grrrr

If it's not one thing then it's another
I'm going to 'second' Vipersan's assessment re: the Venture actuator that's had a cog failure the same as Captain Jack's unit.
I repaired mine a month ago and in the last few days it's gone and had another internal gearbx cog fail.
Iv'e got a spare 36" QUARL Superjack that is being used as a spare - it's not quite as fast on the 'In - Out' travel but otherwise has been no problem.
I'm scratching my head whether to bother ordering a replacement cog or not as things now are even more expensive than before to get things from the USA.... unless anybody has a spare cog as shown ?.

Yep, absolutely rediculous pricing - iv'e ordered a new 36" QUARL Superjack for not a lot more than that
Might be worth dropping an email to Rick Caylor to if can get one a a sensible price?

I needed to replace my tube assembly at one point and they were kind & responsive although the cost was high due to shipping (weight, customs duty, etc).
It doesn't cost anything to ask for pricing though.

I wouldn't, unless the material is far stronger, or perhaps reinforced in between layers (a disc or two of steel, filed to same tooth contour after the printing).
Fine sand casting may be an option, though the teeth might be difficult to replicate.

Yikes - could that black piece have been damaged when the while piece broke? Mine is still OK after replacing it. I do have two spare white cogs but I think you do too? I don't have the black one.

Possibly but can't say for sure re: yours.
I think my damaged Black cog showed it's fault when i was nearly fully extended on the actuator to the East - energised the actuator to come back to due South , travelled a little bit and then emitted a 'whirling' sound from within the gearbox - that sound must have been the small centre teeth of the White cog grinding away on that section of Black cog teeth as shown in the pic. I think when there was only small dish movement around say 40°West to 70°West there was less stress put on the two meshing Black & White gear cogs and it caused no problem.
Anyway, iv'e got the part number for the Black drive cog , just waiting for the response back from Venture support direct , that could be interesting

Is that for just one cog? Invoice says a set?
