So, this is my last three days. I need a rant to help me get over it.
A trip down to France starting on Tuesday. I had hoped that with it being a bank holiday that the roads would be reasonably clear. Fat chance! The M6 was quite congested from where we joined it from the M54 all the way through Birmingham. Normally I would go down the M40 but there were warning notices on the overhead displays warning of a 30 minute delay down by junction 11. Radio reports told me that it was an accident and that the M40 was closed.
Soooo, we decided to keep going on the M6 and go down the M1. The A43 runs between the M1 and M40 and joins just below the obstruction. Unfortunately as soon as we hit the M1 there was about 15 miles of slow traffic through roadworks. To male matters worse the overhead displays warned that A43 had long delays for the last few miles before joining the M40 so we kept going on the M1
Then, when we got to the M25 we joined yet another queue. This one started up by St Albans and continued all the way round to Surrey! When we eventually got to Folkestone for the tunnel we were over two hours late. The knock-on from this was that we didn't get to our hotel until nearly 2:00am!
Our misery wasn't over then though. I booked in using the automated system and then tried to use the code to open the gate. Wouldn't work. Tried several times. Still wouldn't work. I went up to our room to see if I could get in there with the code. It worked and I opened the door to see that the TV was on. Oh Shit I thought. What if there's already someone in there? Anyway there wasn't and I went back down and called the service people who gave me another code to open the gate. All in all it 2:00 by the time we got to bed. We set the alarm for 8:00 to give the best balance between sleep and getting going the next day.
It still wasn't over though. The bloody TV came on at 6:15 to wake us up. Somebody had set the alarm before us and not cancelled it!
Did I mention that I have a cold? I was struggling down through England and I woke up with a blinding headache after my truncated sleep. Fortunately a shower, breakfast and some painkillers sorted me out sufficiently for the drive through France.
Which was uneventful thank goodness.
I'm still recovering today though. And it seems that Man Flu is a definite illness. Viruses may have evolved to hit men hard but go easy on women
