My Location
UK
Hi friends ..
Great day for me as I've just added another Cband notch to my belt ..

The location of my 1.8m dish led me to believe that accessing this bird was impossible..
My dish is low down and at this elevation has many obstacles in its path.
Some ajustment of the actuator allowed another 15 degrees of movement westward..
But locating the Sat was a problem..
So
First I located myself on the google satellite locater map ..and got my theoretical line of sight:-

Next I had the bright idea of mounting a small camera on the back of the LNBF ...then moving the dish ...whilst watching the the 'Dish eye view' until I got the line suggested by dishpointer/google maps ...
Result ..
I was within 2 degrees of optimum ..
A bit of Tweaking and I had my first pictures from Bolivia..
looks like I'm gonna be busy this afternoon scanning in a new Bird..
A couple of pics from Bolivian TV to be going on with ..
I'll post some more exotica later ..if anyones interested..

Fantastic VS. More please!

Yes, it can be a surprise sometimes, what you can achieve. I always thought 58W was beyond me with my ku-band setup, but a little TLC works wonders :)

Keep it up - I'm particularly fond of scanning in a new bird myself.

Thanks m8's ...
FWIW I suspect only half of the dish has a clear view of the sat ...and the tree in distance is far enough away not to present a major obstruction ..as shown onthe dish eye view..
But even at 50% dish efficiency I'm getting enough signal to get a result.
Bacon butty time now ..
and then I'll see what else I can log..

hi - vipersan -

a nice selection of screenshots there :)
you must have your dish / l.n.b setup very well tuned -
Are you using the pauxis or the - BSC421 that you were working with a while ago ?

cheers nelson.b.

Hi Nelson ..
The Pauxis ...although a very good LNBF in my opinion ...has been retired for now in favour of the BSC421
I have to admit there has been a noticeable improvement generally since I fitted it..
Not neccessarily with signal levels ...but signal quality and stability..
As you correctly summise ..I suspect I'm squeezing the pips on my setup ...and they are squeaking..
I keep trying to dream up new ways to push my personal envelope ..but I suspect I've reached the limit.
I seriously wish I could get my hands on a set of petal extensions for my 1.8m
I know they do exist ...but haven't been around for some time.
...My dish is now an old man so to speak..
I could only fit half of them anyway ..as there is a wall to the east ..
It would look very odd indeed ..

btw thanks for the nudge Nelson ...I've now updated My System profile...

Fairly clear skies ...so thought I'd try for more..
Managed to lock in Peru Magico 3696 H ...sadly encrypted in Nagr@2

But did manage a couple of pics from Hipodromo (racing channel) 3970 V

I'm Curious about the New ...unlisted channel on 3668H
I'll try that one myself tonight ..
could you provide SR and FEC ..
I can't blind scan with the AZbox ..
