I think my satellite may be misaligned

Hi there,

I've been having weird issues with my sat and I think I may have misaligned it slightly. At random times, certain transponders/all transponders (it varies) will be anything from working perfectly to only receiving brightly coloured glitches. This will persist for a while, and then it will go back to working fine after a few hours to a day.

What is your location? ("England" is too vague)

What size/type of dish and LNB do you have?

Did you install it yourself?

If not, have you been fiddling with it? (Your Post says you may have misaligned it slightly)

When was it installed?

Have you checked the condition of the cabling, particularly the F connections?

What Receiver are you using?

Which Satellite are you trying to receive?

Now I do like your humor! made me laugh that did.

I just had to adjust mine. The gales blew it 7 degrees out to the East. I adjusted it altering the latitude setting on the reciever until I could sort it out today. That's when I noticed how rusty it was. It has been very windy on the south coast this winter.

But as Tivu asked, it could be a multitude of things unless you can give more info m8

A list of channels would help, at least to eliminate DECT interference.

No special setups going on, it's a standard 60cm Sky dish with a quad LNB pointed at 28.2. I had to realign it due to the wind a while back, and since then it's been fluctuating. I got a reasonable signal and tested my receiver to make sure it was the right sat, but it started snowing heavily before I could nail it down to a perfect spot. It's been up less than 6 months, so I'm sure rust can't be the issue, but I'll check next time I'm up there.

The random fluctuations are what bug me. Right now I'm receiving every single channel perfectly with not so much as a glitch, but this likely won't last. I'll evaluate the condition of the dish equipment when I'm nailing down the alignment next time.

My main interest is in knowing why this would happen from a technical standpoint. My lack of understanding of the whole thing would make me think that it couldnt be an alignment issue if it works perfectly one day and really bad the next without touching the dish inbetween. If this is actually not possible technically, then my next obvious assumption would be my equipment is faulty (which I know it is not, I've tested it on multiple receivers).
