I want to receive Freeview and FTA

I have recently purchased a TX-P42V20B and currently have the DVB-S receiver connected to a dish receiving Astra 1 for European FTA channels. I would like to connect a second dish aligned to the Astra 2 satellites to receive Freesat and have read this can be done using a DiSEqC switch to connect the 2 dishes to a single cable that I can then plug into the receiver. However when I read the user manual I notice a line in the specifications that reads “Not available for DiSEqC control” and would like to confirm if this line is applicable to the preceding line “Demodulation – QPSK, 8PSK” or if it means the receiver is just not compatible with DiSEqC. Any help is appreciated.
 
Most FTA satellite receivers are able to operate a Diseqc switch, if yours doesn't then you need to get a different one. What is the make and model of the receiver?
 
I'd be very surprised if the receiver doesn't have mini DiSEqC, 1.0 control. As above, please supply the receiver model.
 
It's integrated in the TV - Panasonic TX-P42V20B. I didn't want to just try and maybe damage the receiver as I understand the DiSEqC switch works on the voltage supplied from the LNB
 
After a quick search on the Internet I've found that the Panny is a dual tuner Freeview and Freesat (not just FTA) TV. Freesat, as such, doesn't support DiSeqC (which may be what the line in the specifications means) I believe but you should be able to operate it in non-Freesat mode (which is basically FTA) and you might then be able to use DiSeqC signalling.

DiSeqC control is generated by modulating the 22KHz tone with pulses, not by voltage, so you won't do any damage.

If you are able to operate a DiSeqC switch then you should put 28E on port A and any other satellite positions on the other ports. This is so that Freesat mode still works as a default.

Does the manual give any indication of a non-Freesat mode?
 
Shouldn't he be able to use an A/B switch and just change over manually?
 
Hi, no it doesn't give a mode. I have the option in the setup menus to select Freesat or other sat. I have selected other sat and have tuned it to the Astra 1 satellites, which worked well, and if I choose Freesat I get no channels found, obviously as I don't have a dish pointing to Astra 2.

Yes, but if you have DiSeqC that'll do it for you. Also, what if the two cables into one junction is up by the satellite dish?

That's the non-Freesat mode then. Is there a DiSeqC option in this mode?

That's right. You need a dish pointing ar Astra 2 - obviously!

Your next step depends on DiSeqC compatibility (or not).

With the possibilty of having to use a manual A/B switch as per T1154's suggestion as a final solution!
 
Okay an IDTV. Yes there are alot of integrated freesat TV's that do not support DiSEqC control protocol in any shape or form ;)

22 kHz DiSEqC generator ?
