Fabulous stuff. This is from early January 1985, and includes info about the Durris tv mast failure in winter storms in 1984. But the 405 closedown stuff is just brilliant.

In remember looking out for the IBA Engineering Announcements - in the days before the internet it was a useful source of info about new transmitters :D

The lady Janet Smythe says it is 1985 AS not 1995

Great stuff, and very evocative. I remember seeing ITV for the first time, around 1962 when my parents bought their second TV. We lived in Boston, Lincs, and got BBC North on channel 2 Holme Moss, and Anglia on channel 11 from Mendlesham.

Apparently when the 405 station at Kirk o Shotts was turned off the BBC only had one complaint - an old lady who lived near Inverness :D

No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

High Definition TV began in the 60's, as the continuity announcer explains briefly in this End of 405 Line BBC transmission:

And the video recorded from the source camera that they used to watch the old TV:
