Hi all

Dose anybody know if the Icecrypt S4000HDPVR are any good as i can not seem to find a review on them.

As i have been offered one at a very good price with a 320gb HD.

Any advice would be good advice

Thanks

I'm liking mine. They are made by Fortis (search for the Fortis users .com site) and are rebranded as Octagon 1018HD amongst other names - the Icecrypt is £100 cheaper than the Octagon branded one so a good choice. Any review of that machine is also valid. Firmware is relatively reliable and getting better almost weekly at the moment with plenty of EMU opportunities. For the price I'm very pleased with it so far (with the odd minor niggle) and I think it would be hard to find a comparable twin tuner HD box at the price currently.

Hi Steford

Can you comment on cccam or octagam on the Icecrypt - does it work as client only / client and server ?
What about the PVR function - any issues ?

Cheers in advance

Cccam and Octacam are client only as yet (Octacam runs multi protocols). Newcs works as a server. Cccam can utilise a softcam file, Octacam can't. Unfortunately this combination doesn't quite work for me as I'd like currently. Mgcamd is another possibility.

PVR is very stable - I've not had an issue with it recording regular SD programmes and the odd HD either at the same time or independently. Mgcamd currently doesn't work on playback streams.

Thanks Steford - sounds very tempting now. Its the nagra 3 on the dual tuner via cccam as client that interests me. One last thing before I take the plunge though. Have you been able to record one channel via cccam whilst watching another channel via cccam without any deterioration in either. I know that some dual tuner boxes have struggled when asked to record/watch simultaneously.

Cheers

That I haven't tried - I don't use the CCcam client preferring mgcamd or octacam. As stability is of prime importance I use a CAM for Cryptoworks (the box records several programmes a day). My occasional test using CS and recording/watching at the same time has been fine I seem to recall.

My wife has reported a few crashes during playback recently - although nowhere near as many as the previous Topfield. This may be due to me starting/stopping plugins during her recordings - not sure. So still not 100% stable if I'm honest. Everyone's usage pattern is different and the more complicated it gets the more chances of instability IMHO.

Does this box run on enigma 2?
