which braiding do i use in this Maplin Order Code: N45CK. also can i use this differently ie i want to connect the audio from my viasat, uk skybox, skyitalia, and i pod in they way u would use an audio selector

Assuming you mean 'cut the ends off phono leads' then it all depends on which type of cable the lead is made up of (fully/partially braided, the diameter of outer and inner conductors etc ).
Since it is only audio use, you can probably get away with splicing the right connector (with cable already attached) to the open end of the cable you have just severed, ensuring the outer and inner wiring is separated by some insulation tape.

If you haven't already bought the switch, take a look on Fleabay.....There are plenty there with phono connectors

Unless your speakers are hooked up with phono plugs then that Maplin switch is wrong for your needs. It's designed to handle speaker switching and to make sure the amp sees a consistent load. It's not designed to handle the different characteristics of line level signals that you get on phono connectors used for iPods and the line out sockets for satellite boxes.
