Info on reception in Canary Islands

Hi,

I am an experienced Sat Installer in the Uk and wanted some info on reception of the general East satellites from the Canaries as I would be interested to install over there...

Would those that have knowledge be kind enough to en -lighten me to dish sizes and default transponders etc for esat sat eg, 13, 19 & 28.

30W - 0.6

It really does depend on what Island you are looking at as things vary accross the Islands.

What is the worst part on the island signal-wise?

The Canary Islands is a group of islands about 50 miles off the West coast of Africa. They cover about 300 miles East to West and about 150 miles North to south. Because we are on the very edge of most European beams there are different oddities between Islands. We do have an individual spot beam for Astra 2B south for instance hence an 80 cm dish for Sky news. A 2.4M in Gran Canaria might?? get 2d no problems but a 3.1M is needed fo Lanzarote etc.

The Location is Lanzarote Trigger.

I assume a 1.2 will only pick up south beams and a larger dish required for North beams and 2D.

Wanted to also know what default Transponders are mostly used for south beams....

Forgot to add:

I have made some enquiries to a family member who lives in Lanzarote (not technical).

They have a 1.2 mtr off set dish 0.3 LNB pointing at Astra 28 East for Sky digital reception. It seems they are receiving the community channel and UKTV Gold +1 which are on North beams???

Is it poss to receive 2A, 2B north beams in lanza with a 1.2?????????

Would be greatful to clear this one up.

A 1.2M will pick up most except 2D and Steerable beam on Eurobird.

A member on DS linked me to your thread regarding Lanzarote from my query:-

"Is anyone else able to give an opinion on the Andrews (Channelmaster) 2.4mtr dish compared with 3+metre of other makes please, for Astra2d and subsequently Freesat HD reception in Costa Teguise, Lanzarote."

I am a retired Vehicle engineer and keen amateur who has intalled his own system previously. We plan to move to Lanzarote as soon as we have sold and I have no interest in installing anything but my own system. We have full HDtv.

I would like to research a suitable spec for my new sat system for when we arrive. If you can help with opinions and comments I would be most grateful.

The CM 2.4 with the correct feedhorn/lnb is a good dish but is slightly too small for 24/7 coverage of 2D here in Lanzarote. Its a great dish but be prepared for some break up. The 3.1 is the choice here.

The 3.1M Famaval installed for 2500 Euro. Not much else available

try millerrental in the south,
bought a 1.2 metre dish a few months ago complete with lnb and mounting bracket for 96 euros,they have a web site.
