Hi

Sorry another question. My dish and lnb are old and playing up when it rains.

How much would it cost to install t a standard sky dish and lnb. I don't have a hd box so only 1 cable going from the dish to the box. Will probably leave this as it is for now but would like a dual or quad lnb.

The install would in NW London and it is a house, so cost would include install dish, lnd and alignment.

Thank you

You may not even need a new dish - its quite possible the alignment is out very slightly due to bad storms, clumsy workmen etc.

Thanks. The dish and lnb must be over 10 years old. Should I get a meter and try and align it?

You dont even need a meter for the first tests. Tune to your weakest channel - ideally you want one that is just starting to pixellate. If you cant find one get a damp teatowel and put it over the lnb. (honest!)

Gently push one side of the dish whilst someone watches the tv. Get them to yell if it makes things better or worse.

Then try the other side of the dish.

Then the top, then the bottom.

You only want to push the dish enough to deflect it slightly - dont put all your strength behind it or you might move it completely!

Also give the dish and the bolts the once over, if they are rusting its time to think about replacing the dish

It will reduce the signal strength a little. Water absorbs the microwave frequencies used by the satellites, which is why weak signals get worse when its raining.

For Sky UK, and decently installed dish should not lose tv signals in anything short of a monsoon like downpour, or lots of snow collecting in front of the lnb.

Also and very possible; check the dish isn't warped. Very easy to happen with the winds we have had at late.
This is one I took down a couple of years ago with picture drop out, lol ;)

Proves that the mounting was solid enough at least :)
