My Satellite Setup

this should be easy ... maybe it's in the FAQ (is there a FAQ ?)

I got a comaq MAG L45 HDMI

removed the cables from the old,working receiver (~5 years old)
and did put it into the new one.

I can get the menus on the TV and all keys do work but I get no TV-picture at all

welcome to the forum.
Your profile states that you are in Germany, is your dish fixed on 19E, or do you have a motorized setup, or fixed dish on a different satellite?
Have you tried scanning in the channels, using the receivers menu system? What happens?
Have you read the instructions and adjusted the receivers settings accordingly?
What signal strength and quality readings are you getting?
 
Probably needs the LNB settings to be corrected.

Why are you using SCART if the Receiver has HDMI? Is the television not HD Ready?

Yes, but the thing that has changed is the receiver - so it's more than likely that the receiver needs some settings changed.

eg LNB needs to be set to Universal and needs to be powered up, for example: Those things will be in the receiver menu.

I suggest you connect the old one up, go to the relevant menus and note what the settings are.

Then connect up the new box and replicate the old settings.

PS: LNB = Low Noise Blockdownconverter

A Low Noise Ku Band (Domestic Satellite, amongst other things) detector which Downconverts the Satellite frequencies in a Block to a range that the Receiver can actually cope with.
 
alternatively give it back and buy an old, used receiver at ebay - what's easier ?
 
Learning to drive the new one shouldn't take more than a few minutes.
 
Have a look in the instruction manual for LNB settings and scanning/adding a satellite.
You still haven't mentioned what satellite you're trying to view and which channels.
Do you have a motorized setup or fixed dish?
 
I don't know.Multi-appartment house with satellite-dish on the roof and antenna-doses

a few minutes for you experts - that's ~30 min for average people , I guesstimate.
>1h for unlucky people with incompatible systems like me.
 
What channels were you viewing with the old receiver?
If you are in Germany were you watching Sport 1, RTL, Sat 1 and other German FTA channels?
I suggest you go into the receivers menu and try scanning in Astra 1 19.2E.
 
5 hour spent on this so far.
The hotline was not available, I tried ~5-10 times

now I can do "automatic searchrun" for one of ~10 satellites and it installs ~200 TV-channels,
most of which only have the station-data and no picture, but also 20-50 channels
which work with pictures.
But most are foreign language, not the common ones ARD,ZDF,RTL,SAT1,..
 
What are some of the channels you have scanned and their frequencies? If these channels prove to be from another satellite, perhaps Hotbird 13E, it may be that there are two satellite feeds and you may need to setup DiSEqC commands, but looking at the menus in your old receiver would tell you that, as already suggested.

Most receivers sold for Ku band satellite are preset with Universal LNB and LNB power on, so should work out of the box, as long as you select the correct satellite and insert the correct DiSEqC number if on a switch.

So there's nothing wrong with the receiver, you need to factory reset and get rid of your last search, then do a new scan for Astra 1 at 19.2 East.
 
Right: As you can only receive Channels from the one Satellite your Dish is aligned to, scanning "Satellites" stored in your receiver is always going to give misleading results.

Frequencies and other parameters are re-used across the Satellite arc - this is possible because you can only receive Channels from the one position your dish is aligned to.

Getting lots of apparent results merely means you have scanned a data table ("Satellite") that happens to contain some data that coincidentally partly applies to the one position your dish is actually aligned to.

Not being able to get Video/Audio is further proof you are scanning the "wrong" Satellite.

So what you need to do is tell us the names of a handful of Channels that you are seemingly getting.

Then we can tell you which one Satellite position you actually are aligned to.


and we'll take it from there ....................



Edit: Rolfw has said the same in far fewer words, as evidence by the fact that a full eight minutes elapsed while I was woffling!!
 
Ah.

Just read over the Thread again: Post #10 might imply that the Dish system is more complex than a single Satellite setup. Sorry, but that Post had previoulsy passed me by for some reason!

So it is possible you will need to assign a DiSEqC Port to get the Satellite you really want.

As stated much earlier, at Post #6, and reiterated by Rolfw, if you reconnect your old receiver and go into the relevant menus, you should be able to note and replicate the settings.

I'm guessing that against 19.2E there will be a parameter shown akin to DiSEqC "A", "B", "C" or similar (Probably "B").

That'll be the thing you are now missing in your new Receiver.

Alternatively, just Post a screen shot of the relevant Menus and we'll tell you what options to alter/set.
 
it works now, but a new device had to be installed near the satellite.

Apparantly old receivers (analog) and new receivers (digital) are not completely interchangeable

That'll be the LNB itself.

Never thought of that - not enough info (ie No previous mention of the key word "Analogue" in relation to the old receiver)!

Anyway, glad all is well and thankyou for letting us know.
 
I didn't know it were analog. I didn't even know that there were digital ones
and analog ones out there and that they were incompatible.
A total of ~8 hours is lost and I haven't yet seen the bill from the service men.
And now another party in the house has got problems ...

Thinking back to the good old times when there were just 2 channels
and just one TV, no receiver,recorder,converter,splitter,dishes,computer,
DVD-player... to be installed.
And program-makers concentrated on these two channels and you could talk with
friends about what you saw.
