Installing Superjack DG120

hi guys.

long shot but i am going to be installing my superjack dg120 but i need to know what elevation i should have my dish setup. it tells you in the manual based on your locaiton

anyone help?

Motor inclination set to site Latitude and dish elevation roughly up from vertical as a starting point.

do people actually use a compass to find due south?

i don't own a compass and was just going to line the motor,pole, dish 0 degrees and then put the dreambox on bbc world on thor 0.8w and then move the motor by hand, swivling on the pole until i get a signal. tweak the signal until it is the strongest.

set the dreambox to use usals and save. scan see what it picks up.

would that be the correct way?

i have now, some excellent guides there....


i have slight play in my motor arm. it seems to move side to side slightly.

if i grab the lnb and move it side to side it is quite noticable.

do you think this will cause an issue?

i have not got as far as installing the satellites yet

There will always be some small amount of play noticed on the motor stub.

yea

i have two of these motors.

one has very slight and the other is a bit more.

unfortunately the one with more movement is currently up as that is newer and less used....

having trouble with my install.

thought i was on to a good thing as i positioned everything @ 0 degrees, everything was in line and the pole was straight.

my motor was set to my latitude and i put the details in the dm800 menu enabled usals on thor 0.8w.

clicked bbc world on 1w and my motor turned and it gave me a picture with 70% signal.

i tweaked the signal until 81%.

in the dm800 menu i set some other satellites. 28.2e, 19e, 13e, 30w to use the same settings.

but i get nothing on the other sats.

i tweaked 1w and tested 28.2e and i was getting 50% signal. if i tweaked it from 28.2e i would not get anything better than that.

so i have called it a day today.

last time i set this setup up (at my old house) i did not use usals i just tuned my dish into 1W until i got a good signal and then i told it to go to 30w and then tweaked until i got a signal. then i moved back to 1w and still had a signal.

i could then hit all the other satellites and i just tweaked each satellite from the menu of the dm800.

this time doing usals i am struggling

Well don't use usal, I have tuned to 4 sat's without using them. I tweek the vbox for the best signal, and gave them a position number.

I would say to read over the set up guides again; all the info is there. You need to drive the dish to 0.8W before making your alignment.

i did drive the dish to 0.8w

i had the motor at 0 degrees, put the channel on bbc world on thor 1w. the motor moved and gave me a signal of 70% and the channel cleared (i moved the motor and dish while slackening the bolts and got 81%

i then tried 28.2e and could only get 50% signal

or should i leave the motor at 0 degrees and then put the dm800 on bbc world frequency in the tune menu and then slackin bolts and move motor and dish until i get a signal on thor 1 west. this would leave the motor at 0 degrees. would this allow me to tune the other sats in and pick them up at the correct degrees?

Send the motor to zero, input coordinates, send to either Thor 0.8°W or 5°W, align dish by swinging motor/dish together around the pole and by adjustment to the dish elevation.

check pole in level and you have the correct motor inclination set.

yea that is what i did, so something must be wrong.

Next step is to Post some pics .................... so we can eliminate (?!) common howlers such as setting Motor "Latitude" against the wrong scale.

just to update you guys...

As you can see from my attachments. bear in mind i was climbing a ladder with my phone so not perfect pictures

the straight one is where the motor will be fixed to, that is facing south.

the other two slightly off are the sides of the pole (i suppose this could be causing the issue)

the pole is fixed with a T and K bracket. the T and K bracket will not adjust anymore. i would need to redrill new holes (to be honest the T and K brackets are on the piss)

i think i might bite the bullet and just install the T and K brackets again, and then get them both level before fixing the pole.

i think the T bracket is bit dodgey because it seems to fix nicely to the wall but then it comes down on an angle i.e not straight onto the pole. as if it has been fixed over time which has caused it to pull down (hope that makes sense)

i could fix Two K brackets, could i not? would that give it a bit more strength?

not sure where i would buy these brackets from
