Insurers Hike the prices

I have been trying to renew my car insurance for a week now and whoever I go with I get a ridiculous hike in premiums of between 35% to 40%. Myself and my wife have had no claims and no accidents in over 35 years of motoring and I thought the threat of increased premiums if you claimed resulted in your premiums staying the same if you drove carefully and had fewer accidents that required a claim i.e. a no claims bonus. It seems it doesn't work that way any more. When I challenged the reasons for the hike with one company I was told it was because of the bad winter and they had lost so much money they had to re-coup things somehow.

So it is another case of heads they win tails I lose, it seems that the banking establishment are not the only ones to want to line their pockets with the general public's hard earned money. It has always been my contention that insurance is a con, this latest incident merely confirms it. They now claim that women drivers will have to pay more as from next year.

Have you done the Meerkat thing?

I've used comparison sites but always come back to two years with Direct Line, a year with Churchill and repeat the sequence.

Even though they are both (at present) RBS brands, they treat you as a new customer and so get more discount.

Haven't paid more than £160 for yonks - although that won't last.

There's also Saga, Help the Aged and another one for "mature" people that I can't remember.

Good god I paid twice that amount last year

Tried em, it seems I am doomed cos there is a named driver involved, that named driver being my spouse combined with it being a Japanese car and we need business use as well

Are you asking if Topper wanders round in a smoking jacket with a cigarette holder in his paw?

Seriously though, I use Axa here because their agency is in my nearest large village and the girl in their office speaks really good English. It is cheaper than AGF which I was with before, but still costs nearly €370 a year for a 'mature' Nissan Micra but 'toutes risques' and I can add drivers on without extra cost.

Oh by the way, .......I don't pay road tax.

It was RIAS I was thinking of, although I've never tried them

Both wife and I are with Saga (basically for their almost unlimited Green Card cover abroad) and we each have the other as the named driver. From all too fallible memory both are in the £300 + region for fully comp protected cover. We do cover a lot of miles though...
