Intelsat 901 27.5w

Here in Southern Spain we have been enjoying BBC satback via Intelsat 901 27.5w. This would now be a thing of the past as Satback has transferred to Telstar 12 15w, which appears to be out of range for us!
We will continue to search for alternatives, but IPTV would now appear to be the only solution!
Before people say, that we should learn Spanish and watch their TV, I would ask, have you ever seen Spanish TV?

Tuned in last night and had no audio for some reason, 100% my issue 27.5w is not chaning anytime soon my local TX (which I can walk to) still has a dish pointing in the wrong direction. It is going to take a long time for A****A to make all the changes. Driving to NW spain in a few months will...

I think,when you choose to live in a different country (and not forced to do so by some employer or dictator)
a minimum is learn the local language and TV,and go to the market. If you hate their TV ,the chance is great,this country is just not for you.
I feel that with US tv USA may be important in our culture,the place is just not for me & their TV is an easy way to notice that.
BTW Russian TV is much,much worse...try it!!
So,if you can' t swallow Spanish tv... look for another place!
Don t forget their regional channels and TVE2 are usually better than the terrible Antena3 or telecinco...
This being said,when you keep connections to the UK ,TV being part of popular culture,watching it is a way of keeping connected to your UK community.Logical enough.
You just now have TWO communities ((at least) ,so enjoy both!!
Bi-cultural couples will always share their cultural activities between at least 2 "hotspots"
Having taught English for over 33 years, I have this duality... and my partner also speaks Urdu,plus some Spanish for us both.
More of us in Eurasia should enjoy multiple cultures & TV is quite a good start!!

just my own experience ,having "tried" 6 different countries (and their TV).
TV is an expression of the popular culture of a country/language .
For example,Flemish & French speaking Belgian TV institutes produce different brands of TV fare,both interesting...just different.
Marbella has Andalucia TV...Morocco next door,maybe Gibraltar too...diversity makes it spicy!

One have to have full access to 36E and 75E and 80E Russian satellites, good russian language skill and ability to filter out propaganda and 'news' programmes, then the rest is mostly good quality content. On 14W or Hotbird has never been these non-political cultural, leisure and film channels, only twisted current affairs and cheap entertainment.
