Famaval 2.4m dish, Invacom 0.2dB LNB (single), Pace 430N

Like many in fringe reception areas I find Invacom LNBs the best performers for all Sky satellites (2A/2B/2D). Incidentally further tests here in Cyprus show the single and quad have similar performance, but the twin (although still very good) poor by comparison.
I recentaly had a problem with the black plastic case. This case (adjusts to alter skew) has no locking screw - it is a press-fit. Over 2 hot summers and coldish winters, plus other weather extremes, this case has shrunk and become brittle, and then moved in strong winds; loss or reduction in signal.
I had the installer reset the LNB, and then tape it up with amalgaming tape.
Recption back to normal again.
cheers,
Geoff

Interesting,I've read in so many other posts that the quad should be a better performer than the single, especially on outputs 2 and 3.

Lucky for me if this is the case since i bought a MTI AP 8 TW instead of an invacom quad.

Hope I get it before the weekend so I can compare it to the Invacom single I have for the moment.

I wonder if you can you tell us what kind of tests and the number of samples of each kind of LNB used, I'm sure there are a lot of people here interested in these tests as there is an 'is it worth it or not' question in a lot of peoples minds.
Great if you can give us any details.

Tnx :)

I have found the invacom to be the best lnb i've bought so far.I use a c120 0.3.I have tried cambridge, philips, samsung and sharp. My dish is 1.5meter centerfeed, before Viasat at 5 east went to nds i could watch tv1000,ticket,cinema and tv3's all day and night, even if was raining. No other lnb would do this in my part of the world.(5 miles from Manchester airport).I've had this lnb for about 2 years without any problems whatsoever. They are also extremely good value for money.
Regards DaDragon.

I assume you are using your dish for hotbird. If your dish was on astra 2d then you would pick up bbc better(not all day though)with a quad than a twin. What it boils down to is the frequencies that the invacom works best at and it seems to be the whole frequency range.other lnb's like the mti are good but not effective on the very low frequency used on 2d.before the invacom came out(and before we lost bbc) we were using the strong lnb which worked well especially on the movie channels during the weak period in the afternoon.

It's really a case of comparing different makes of lnb rather than official testing, probably one sample, one test.if it don't work try another make.Over here we have to go to extremes to keep up with sky and bbc meddling with satellites and frequencies, bigger dishes for bbc and better lnb's for improving reception on certain channels,eg sky keep moving the movie channel frequencies about,so you can get sky movie 7 and 9 on a 1.5m dish,4,5,6 on a 2m and 1,2,3 on a 2.4m.
in the uk you are limited to your small offset dishes but you have strong signals so different lnbs will give you different results from us.

Well that is right Zorba. We have actually tested 5 Invacom LNBs and as I said previously although there were variations in performance they ALL outperformed 3 other makes; all tests were on the 2A/2B satellites. It may well be that for 2D reception things might be different. Substitution seems to be the answer! If you get reception leave well alone. If not then try some different LNBs.

Back in the UK and missing Cyprus!!!

Hi

I live near Limassol Cyprus and have a 2.2m prime focus dish running a Pace DS430n box. Initially I had a C120 MTI AP8 Single LNB fitted which was ok. The best I got out of it was C4 a few hours a day on top of the usual stuff (I use C4 reception as a benchmark). My Sat installer reckoned that if I fitted an Invacom C120 Quad to the dish the performance would increase - and boy was he right. Not only did I get C4 for about 75% of the day but I started getting other cool stuff like Sky one mix, sci-fi & Men and Motors etc.

Incidentally the same guy fitted a Tuned adjustable feed horn to replace the stock feed horn and now I get C4 24/7 and all the other cool stuff for many more hours a day!

Cheers

Nick

Can you tell us the make/model of the Adjustable Feedhorn, price in CYP, and the name of the Cyprus supplier please?
Thanks

Sorry Geoff, I don't Know the make or model, I do know they come in different horn diameters according to the dish size. They have a plastic clamp and aluminium C120 feed with a fine thread for the horn so it can be adjusted.

The guys name is Andreas Gavriel and he is on 25732890 or mob 99667577. He is in Limassol off the second roundabout (the first being the Orphanedes one at the Paphos motorway) close to the bottom of the road on the left.

He will charge about Cyp 40 but if you mention me (Nick at Episkopi) I'm sure he'll knock a few quid off as I've put a fair amount of business his way recently. You will need to call him as he will need to get the item in stock as he stocks on a need basis.

I fitted mine myself, but no matter what I did I couldn't get an improvement (infact the reception was worse than stock), so when he was in the area, he came and 'tweaked' the tune and hey presto reception was up another 5-10%:)

Well...if the mentioned feed is the one in this link >>> http://www.satellites.co.uk/php-bin/forum/showthread.php?p=22600#post22600 i belive £40 CYP is expensive price...I suggest you contact Future Electronics in Limassol for a more reasonable quotation,AFAIK they are the importers of these feeds to the island.

Hi

That is the exaxt one that I have had installed. I have checked with future and they are cyp23 including the plastic mount (cyp18 without)....AAAAHHHH, ripped off again - I must have put 3 grands worth of business his way. Still, you live and learn! Future Electronics is about 300yards further down the same road, still on the left.

I agree they are good feeds, the fact that the f/d ratio can be adjusted means they can be used on any size prime focus dish.I had mine supplied and fitted on to a 2.4m with Invacom quad by Simon(99 696889) and even got BBC for a couple of hours.

I have seen 3.0m prime focus Channel Master clearing 2D but it is not consistent...breaks up in cloudy weather & certain times of the day.
