Admin edit - this deserves its own topic so Ive split the relevant posts off the "aero thread" discussion. A/S

Still playing with this dongle, it's got a bit of coax plugged in, and the whole thing is hanging on the back of the tv mount.

It's in the window. I can see most things coming in to Bristol airport and some at Bournemouth.

Nice one Chris, get that "twig" outside up a pole. !
Heres the latest "splat" from my 1090 setup, the range rings are set to 50 miles and the colours represent altitude.

I made a scaled up version of one of these which worked quite well.

Bloody hell - thats incredible range.

I havent logged anything for a week as attempts to build a new feed in service have gone totally pearshaped. As usual the instructions are written by people who know the software and as a result they are shall we say lacking some important details for noobs.........

I'll have to let you tidy up AS ..
for some reason I've lost access to thread tools ?

That is to say ..
I can move the entire thread ...but not individual posts ?

CF I assume you have a proper 1090 antenna up on top of that mast, not one made from a few lengths of chopped up coax! :D

I have now but started off with various home made efforts the best being a co-linear made from a strand of 2mm copper wire with loops at the relevant intervals and the Bi-Quad which was more compact and worked well, weather proofing was the main problem so when I got into the Satellite stuff I got a professionally made co-linear and threw it up and forgot about it. Lol

I want that mast - my next attempt to get my coax co-linear antenna higher involves an old tent pole grabbed from the rubbish at work! The plastic pipe slides just nicely over the indents at the end of the poles

The mast as pictured was 65ft but .................. it lost the top 20ft section in a storm a while ago and I havn't got round to replacing it yet. I got the poles from a local TV installer who had recovered them from a customer. He told me that over here they regularly go up to 100ft using these poles (and lots of guy wire) as the terrestrial reception out in the sticks is so poor. The setup is Antenna at the top, 1 meter of coax down to a box containing a 1090 filter and a Flightaware Dongle then a 1.5m usb extn cable to another box containing a Pi. The pi is connected to the base of the mast via cat6 Ethernet cable which also supply's the power. the whole thing is connected to my network via Ethernet over the mains adapters which arnt ideal from a noise point of view but I haven't got round to either Cat6 cable or WiFi solution yet.
