Is 60% enough signal?

Is 60% enough signal to watch during most weathers?

It gives about 40% tollarence for rain etc... but is that enough?

There is a guy near me with 2.4M dish getting 60% signal on his admc box (i currently get 40% on 1.8M dish).

Would 60% be good through normal english rain etc? Or would it still loose signal?
 
60%, 40%.....meaningless figures, unless you know the particular receiver that these values are shown on well. They certainly can't be used to compare different makes or even different receiver models. Also depends on FEC ratio and bit rate of the channel and transponder.

For example, 60% on one of my Technomates, won't even give me a picture, let alone rain fade margin.

Well,

They are on identical receivers... both the ADMC sports humax box.

Both on AD Sports 6 - 11766 / 27500 H 5/6

40% gives strong picture, so basically same setting same box same satellite just bigger dish gives him 20% extra signal over me...
 
The values still don't mean much, unless you know how well 60 % works in the rain on that receiver, on that same tp. If you know that, you have your answer.

I guess i will have to just wait and find out!

This is my limit for sure!

I said 1.8m was the limit. I cannot help it.

I think i am addicted, i just looked i have 9 spare satellite recievers sat behind me lol!
 
Once you get it professionally installed, get a detailed signal measurement report on aforementioned transponders. This should include, dBuV, MER, CNR and Pre/post BER. As mentioned, a receiver signal quality reading is meaningless.

garyg I think NASA are knocking out some old 9 metre dishes.If you placed them around your house I don't know about the rain fade but you would have a very dry house.I can't believe you have so many receivers knocking around the house.I assume if you have a missus she has done a runner by now.If not she will end up using that 2.4m dish as a large wok on the bbq and you will be the main course.Good luck with your addiction.

I do have a missues.

I do plan on ebaying ALL my spares once I have the season planned out :)

I have atleast 8 recievers to sell, channel master 1.8m dish, 110CM solid dish. few other bits and bobs!

I need to clear some space
 
Ok.Your next challenge is to fit a system in the car that can track your preferred satellite on the move down the motorway.Who knows the way technology is going we might see such a system in the next generation of Chinese manufactured cars.Remember where you heard it first.I hope you enjoy the EPL this season.
 
And btw don't forget to post your install pictures when the job's complete.I'm dying to see that 2.4m dish up and running.I live in a modest terraced suburban pile with a garden 14ft wide.Imagine me with a dish that size on a ground stand.It could double as a conservatory.Enjoyed your two posts and you certainly got the groups attention and the amount of posts must be a record in such a short space of time.The board sponsors will love you.You should be in line for a little gift from them.Maybe a top of the range LNB.

Ok i will go through it when I have everything setup.

I have atleast 2 HD recievers and 7 SD recievers, 2 dishes + mountings etc + more

Already available in the states for motorhomes
