I too have none of those, neither do I have a Smartphone.

Also, I refuse to spend more than 7 or 8000 £ on a Car, seeing it as a utility, not a status symbol.

+1 to that list. We're the invisible section of the populace - that's why we have to sidestep away from the idiots and their mobiles on the street.

Just think, one BIG Solar flare and everyone will be living like us old f@rts...Except when that happens I would have to put the steel shutters up, fill the moat and get the ammo out of the powder bunker.....As every flat-lander would be coming over the hill.

I bought a smartphone a year ago but never bothered to sign a contract with a mobile company.
I learnt about most popular application just to be "in" with the technology, using my home wifi system.
My elder brother started to nag me recently about taking a mobile phone contract and I finally gave up and signed up for a $10 service which gives me unlimited calls and SMS and 100 minutes to call overseas + 10GB internet per month.
I haven't used all that even once and don't bother to take it with me when I go out. Crazy I know so I am just throwing away $10 a month in the meantime.
It will be useful if and when I travel abroad so I need to learn about few basic things.
In my defense, I think I value my privacy and can't really bother to know what everybody I know is doing at any given moment.
In the meantime, is there any service I call in the UK for 100 minutes a month without paying for the call?
I thought of calling the speaking clock but apparently it is not a free service.

Vipersan can tell you all about that!

There are some special mobile phones out there.

Yes, my brother had an Age UK Ownfone during his stay in the care home before he passed away. A tiny thing the size of a credit card, with a lanyard to place round his neck in bed. It only allows two pre-programmed numbers to be called ( my landline and i-Phone), which was all he needed.

From the ones that PaulR mentioned, I'm only on Facebook, partly to keep in touch with relatives in the UK and friends overseas. We spent most of the day in Durham today and it was noticeable how many younger people were engrossed in their phones. We stood outside a shop and saw a couple texting or tweeting (how could you tell?) but not talking or making eye contact. Is it really so important to tell the world everything you are doing??

Although, of course, you have done just that ...... :p:p

Not so fast....I could have been posting on the forum whilst cutting my toenails in the bath but chose to keep such information secret.....

Or, perhaps, you were cutting someone else´s toenails in the bath.

Sadly, such things are no longer newsworthy....
