Hi

Sorry if this has been answered before. Is there a CAM available out there at the moment or a card reader that will work with a sky card allowing you to watch and record the transport stream of say, Sky Sports, directly to a PC?

Cheers

P.S heard of t-rex and dragon card but heard that they might not work anymore.

Correct, T-Rex or Dragon (or any other CAM) won't work with a Sky card. Use a Phoenix smart card reader (or Duolabs CAS3+) and a softcam emulator (NDSCam 0.0.0.7). I use this for my basic Sky sub. Might work with a Premium sub if you put your card number in the NDSCam config file, but I can't vouch for it.

Recently bought this card reader:

_http://www.tbsdtv.com/english/product/3102.html Phoenix smartmouse card reader

So what i do is plug in the card, connect reader to PC(with DVB-S tuner card) and use it with a Soft cam emulator?

The card reader needs a serial interface to work with NDSCam, so that one is not suitable.
Not easy to find one nowadays, the best I could find on a quick search is one from a German supplier -

Right, so that one should work with the right emulator? (NSDCam 0.0.0.7). What use is the other card reader for then? since you dont need it for freesat?

YEs, that one will be OK. The USB reader will programme/read all manner of smartcards, just not suitable for your purpose.

There are plenty of other pay tv providers apart from Sky UK ;)

So the other card reader i bought will only read a freesat sky card? are there extra channels on freesat from sky?

With the card you suggested, will i be able to record the channels in the original .ts format?

It won't read any Sky card using NDSCam. Don't know what you mean by extra Freesat channels, sorry.

Viewing applications (DVBViewer, ProgDVB etc.) allow recording in different media formats. Certainly DVBViewer will record .ts files.

I have a card reader with a serial interface, but I don't understand how I'm suppose to connect it to the PC or TV Card. Also, will this work with a TBS 6981 TV Card?

Ok great. Will this allow me to view sky on multiple tuners?

What i meant about extra freesat was, what is the difference between freesat (no sky card) and freesat with sky.

I don't have the card yet. I'm just wondering if everything will all work before I purchase anything and I'm still debating whether to get the TBS 6981 or the BlackGold BGT3595. I'd appreciate peoples opinions on which card would be best. Decisions decisions :confused

It would be odd if your tuner(s) couldn't receive the Sky channels. Just a question of whether having different makes of tuner cards and their drivers will work OK in your PC. Some combinations don't.

As for Freesat channels, Sky or otherwise, that's what they are - FTA, so your tuner card will find them.

Just wondering, what cable is required to connect the Phoenix card reader via Serial to the PC?

No, because NDSCam only works through a PC COM port, there's no settings for working through a USB port.

I have a Hauppage WINTV Nova HD2 card.

Guess I will need a RS232 to RS232 cable with one of these:

Now I need to decide on a card and order it by the end of the week ideally.
