Is Vu+ Zero 4K Enough for Basic Use? Any Reason to Avoid?

Hi all,

I’m planning to buy a VU+ receiver and need some advice before I go ahead.

I’m most likely getting the Vu+ Zero 4K for around $110 used one From what I understand, it’s more of an entry-level box, but still quite capable.

I know the Vu+ Uno 4K SE is more powerful, has dual tuner, PVR support, and better overall hardware. But honestly, I don’t think I need all that.

My usage is very simple:

• Casual satellite TV viewing
• No need for PVR / HDD recording
• No need for dual tuner
• No multistream or complex setups
• Just basic Enigma2 + cline server
• Good video quality is important to me

From what I’ve read, the Zero 4K still has a decent ARM dual-core processor, 2GB RAM, and HEVC 4K support (AB-COM s.r.o.), so it should be more than enough for normal use.

My main reasons for choosing it:

• Good video chipset compared to cheaper brands like Zgemma or Octagon
• Stable Enigma2 experience
• Compact and low power
• Budget friendly

So my questions:

• Is there any real reason NOT to go for the Zero 4K in my use case?
• Will I actually notice a difference vs Uno 4K in normal daily viewing?
• Is the video quality really better than cheaper brands, or is it mostly the same?
• Any downsides long term (lag, heating, slow UI, etc.)?

I’m not a heavy user — just want a reliable box with good picture quality and smooth channel switching.

Do you guys suggest anything better in similar price range, or should I just go ahead with Zero 4K?

I think if you’re comfortable with Enigma2 and what that entails it’s a good option. I have the Vu+ Duo 4K SE and I like it, but the setup was very involved. I’d say I have to do about an hour of maintenance every few months with changing frequencies and EPGs, with a mix of satellite and IPTV. No complaints with its performance with satellite channels but it can be a bit inconsistent with IPTV.

Does it have blind scan?

Is there something that available in normal android stb bit not in this?

Like mirror cast etc or anything else?

The biggest problem with VU Plus is that its support has been discontinued and there is no blind scan. Octagon's software is constantly updated. VU Plus is at the forefront of picture quality. My personal experience is that when the manufacturer discontinues support, the value of the receiver decreases. If the manufacturer had not discontinued support, the VU Plus brand would have been at the forefront.

I’d agree with that. Lack of blind scan is a bit annoying, so no feed hunting.

Blind scan I've to use separate stb cheaper ones.

But zero 4k model support is it already dead?

Do you mean software updates? Or something else? Or community support forums etc?

I use two Vu+ Duo 4K SE and the VTi image. As for the image there still are updates the latest one from October 2025. However the company Vu+ doesn't support the receiver anymore.
I don't know if it's still possible to get the 4K SE. Amazon used to sell it but no more. I also have an Octagon SF8008 but I prefer the Vu+ not only because it has two CI+ slots but also because the picture is better among other things.

By coincidence I have been given a VU+ Duo as the customer's relative has passed away.

Still with box and cables but the remote control got binned alng with the living room television.

Is it worth trying to et it into running order, and are the remotes the same throughout the VU+ range ?

Yes, it's definitely worth putting it into operation.

What you can't see in 4:2:2, you can view via OpenWebif streaming to your PC.

All the remotes (Vu+ are not the same) are shown below. The one on the left is the older model; the keys feel better and are very soft to press.

The newer model has a harder click when you press the keys.

In Sweden no one has it in stock and on Ebay there are only pre-owned to be found.
Amazon doesn't have it and they don't say it will return later.
