Over the weekend, we had a power cut, after which our Amazon Firestick thingy good itself in a boot-loop that I cannot get it out of.

Then yesterday, my trusty old Samsung S7 decided to die. Thankfully I managed to get the data off it before it was sent up to the pearly gates. On a hunt for a new phone... £££

Today, I am having fun with satellite hobby (remember that one?). Yeah, so over the past few months, one by one, satellites on my T90 have been dropping like flies to the point where only Astra 2 works. I suspected that it was the leafing trees but I am not convinced of it since 28.2E is as strong as ever, while its next door neighbour 23.5E is dead as a dodo. I swapped the inputs on the 16/1 switch and 28.2E worked on the new input. So it could still be the trees...or it could be the cables... or all of the LNBs. Or the switch. Meh... needs investigation.

I have also decided to investigate the issue with the big dish where some frequencies were rather noisy. Suspecting the LNB, I decided to swap it out. Only the bolts holding the alloy Channel Master LNB holder have rusted and promptly snapped off. So need to drill those out and re-tap. But changing the LNB didn't make things any better at all. It's only then I realised that I had already posted about this......... I suspect the interference is getting in the VBox - it has unshielded wires going from the loop-through connectors to the main PCB. Connecting the satellite cable directly into receiver gets rid of the interference for the most part.

We've been having a lot of power cuts, usually only lasting a few minutes, possibly due to new houses, being built, in the area, but a couple of weeks ago we had a longer power cut, and a power surge, when it came back on, that completely wiped my V-Box II settings, and messed up my satellite receiver, even though both were in standby mode.
These power cuts are becoming annoying, not only as I have to reset my clocks, cooker, etc.. but because they set off the neighbours burglar alarms, which can go on for hours, and the last few have been ranging between 2 A.M. - 4 A.M.
 
Get a good UPS system, this will protect all your valuable electronics from sudden power cuts and surges, I use 3, one on the HDTV/satellite stuff, one on the ham radio stuff and one on the computer systems.

I use the 1500 VA rated UPS's, they have enough reserve power to let me shut down systems as needed.
 
I use mains conditioners, big ones with a very heavy transformer in them, never had a problem even after power cuts...

I finally had time to open the carrier bag of bolts that was donated with the CM 2.4 dish and king post from last month.

Im working from home for 10 days as the rear suspension bushes are badly worn on the car - so badly that at 50mph the back of the car shakes like hell when you hit a bump. :oops: Its booked into the garage Tuesday next week. Until then its not going very far at all as its virtually undriveable & Im not attempting going up & down the A68 to work limited to 40mph. So I shall do lots of research into win10 seeing as our clapped out computer system is being refitted this summer and we are losing my beloved win7 equipment.
