Hi there to everybody.

I'm looking to buy the right kit to install Italian Satellite TV in London and I stumbled on this forum.

I've researched quite a bit but I'm not sure on what to do yet.

First of all I don't know exactly the full list of items I need to buy. I know I need a 60cm or more Dish and a satellite finder, but I don't know which receiver I should buy and what else I need.

Also, do you think it's possible my partner can install it on the on the railings outside our window as we can't attach it to the wall?

Italian Channels are chiefly to be found on Hotbird at 13E, which can be received with quite a small dish.

There are some Free To Air (FTA Channels) that any cheap Digital Satellite Receiver will get, or if you want a wider range of Free Channels you can buy a Tivùsat Box but you'd need to be able to supply a Codice Fiscale to get a Viewing Card.

If you want Premium Channels, it is possible to get Sky Italia, but at some cost.

As for installing the dish (60cm is perfectly adequate and with care you might even be able to use a Sky Zone 1 Minidish where you are), all you need is an unobstructed view to the South East.

well i am in italy and there is many free channels on 13 degrees.
it depends what you want to do.
samremo will be aired free
RAI 1 2 3 and tv 4 and 5 are free as well.
sometimes they go encripted
if you want just free them any free to air box will do.
if you want movies in italian then sky italia is the way

The problem with Sky Italia is that it uis hideously expensive to get in the UK if you have to use a UK based reseller. For the higher packages you are looking at almost £1000/year for SD & £1500/year for HD!

Its far far cheaper to use a contact in Italy to get the stuff there and ship it over to the UK of course.

so I think I would for the FTA channels.

My problem is that I have to install the dish on the window railings because I can't make a hole in the building. Do you think that's doable?

Do you want to see a photo of the railings in order to be able to advice?

It depends which way the railings face. If they face a suitable direction, then yes it should be possible to mount a small dish to them.

Try using the Dishpointer tool linked at the top of the page.

The railings face more S than E, so there is a chance it would not work :( I'm thinking maybe we should give it a go and if does not work then I'll sell it again on Amazon. I'm just hoping I can attach it to the railings?

What should I select here?

"Select the satellite from the top dropdown menu that you wish to align your dish towards."

Is a FTA box the same as a FreeSat box? Is there a FTA box that allows you to record as well?

Freesat is a special box for UK Channels ............... special in that it enable 7 day EPG and Red Button stuff.

But it's of no use for what you want.

However, there are Digital Satellite PVRs available, yes: I don't have one myself, so please await replies from others.
