Hi. I am a complete novice and techno virgin so please speak to me in plain idiot-proof \English!

We want to receive Italian tv (RAI etc). We already have a satelite dish erected (not sure where it is facing) and the cable runs into our living room but is not in use - it is from the days when we used to have Sky. Is there a receiver we can buy to connect to the cable, realign the sat dish and receive said Italian tv? We have various Netboxes available (not connected to main tv) and BT Vision.

Stop laughing now at my complete lack of knowledge - help me!!! :)
 
You need to align a medium sized dish (around 60cm) to Hotbird at 13E.

Then you need either a generic Digital Satellite Receiver which permits reception of many Italian Channels (although they may not all be available in the long term, and some of them do Encrypt Premium Content on occasion), or you can acquire a Tivusat Box + Viewing Card which will do the job nicely.

PS: As regards the existing dish, is it a small elliptical dish or an almost circular mesh dish? ie When you had Sky, was it Analogue or the new-fangled Digital? If the former, the dish is aligned to Astra 1 at 19.2E and if the latter, to Astra 2 at 28.2E.

In either case, realignment is a viable DiY job.
